hey people, i didnt know if this should be in here or general because its about a car but yeah im sure the mods will move it if its supposed to be, anyway tonight i went out because my mate got his license and his car...
welllllllll AU XR6 manual(5 speed) and i love my commies but im not bias and i have to admit i liked the car.... pulled pretty hard and had a nice note because of the exaust. maybe its just because its manual that made it such a joy to drive.
so just advertising that i drove the competition and its not as bad as people make it out to be, ive never been JUST a holden man, ive always been pretty open minded but now ive drove both cars and i can say they both have there good and bad parts... overall nice ride and some people aint going to like that i drove a ford and i am giving good feed back but it was nicebtw still loving my vn

yeah fords feel smoother than our loved ones but in all honesty its the harshness of a commodore that i like, also the differences in suspension make a big difference on the road. but again, i like my rough Mcpherson strut.
though if i had to drive from perth to sydney, i'd do it in a ford. but if i had to take 5 laps of barbagello, i'd take my commo ( even if it is a lot slower than a ford )
im not really all that big on AU's but i will admit, the BA's arent so bad. the fords are, in my opinion, more "comfortable" but less "perky" admitably i havent been in a bent 8 ford nor have i taken one for a serious spin but i still prefer my commodore. i respect fords, when i bag them its either in jest or out of stupidity. i'll admit it.
( heck a mate of mine has a 6cyl cortina, its not the fastest thing on the block but its still a cool ride )
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
lol, no shit it isnt as bad is people think. If ford wore holden badges every holden driver would love them.

Well i've owned a ford ute for work and a commodore ute for work.
I had the ford for 3 years and the commodore for 6 months.
Nuff said....
well most cars built in the last ten years are pretty good in my opinion.
I had a chance to drive a selection of new Subaru courtesy cars recently and except for being pathetically slow (no turbo models) they were brilliant. But I was still glad to start driving the VN again, I missed all the creaks and groans, wind noise, dodgy seats and crap speakers. Till then I'd been toying with the idea of selling it and buying something newer, but I don't think I ever will.![]()
I've never driven a falcon to compare, though.
A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any other invention in human history, with the possible exception of handguns and tequila.
agree, i told my mate if his car was more "rougher" and not so smooth id like it even more, so now instead of shift kitting my auto and all that later on, im thinking of manual conversion.... unrefined roughness + manual = fun
so true. im not one of them people who give a shit about a badge so i would still go for the holden because its more rough and more my style. still a nice car but![]()
You've pretty much summed it up there, the falcons, particularly the AU's and BA's are far "softer" than the equivalent commodores. Steering's lighter, brakes aren't as firm, suspension's more comfortable, engine's smoother (for the 6's anyway). Dad's got an AU, it's a bit of an old folks car I reckon, good for long trips though and chicks like it too coz it's modern looking and comfortable. lol, the VN loses points for being too loud and ugly, much more enjoyable to drive though. I've never driven a V8 falcon but I've been a passenger in a fair few, they're actually a pretty good workhorse, despite what some people say about the old wheezer, the new boss motors kick a bit of arse as well, too quiet in stock form though.
Going green with jealousy here, only XR6's ive driven have been auto, even in the sports models there are bugger all manuals around.
Ahhh right, one question, was it a VCT or HP model do ya know? No real point revving it to the limiter anyway (except maybe in 1st) you're outta the power band by then.

haha you know whats funny? his brother brought a BA and he popped the hood and it had boss 260 on the engine cover.... shut the bonnet and he reved it but it didnt sound quiet to be honest.... had a nice rumble to it(a stockish type of rumble) and he said it has a stock exaust.. btw he got the car off his brother.... and the BA is manual to, the 6 went hard id need a towel for the 8 *rolls eyes* haha
yeah he said something about it being pretty rare or something.. and whats vct and hp models? i know it wasnt a series 1 because my other mate (ford crazy) said it needs the more outragous series 1 body kit or something... and yeah he only red lined it in 1st, by the time he red lined it in 2nd he was already over the speed limit haha....Going green with jealousy here, only XR6's ive driven have been auto, even in the sports models there are bugger all manuals around.

I'm yet to drive AU+ but the last ford I drove was an EL.. fully stock.. smooth ride.. and it has balls.. made me want one so badly..

I reckon with the stock exhaust if you're just puttering around in a new XR8, you can hardly tell what it is! At leat the old wheezer sounded like a real 8 straight outta the box. Put a bigger exhaust on the BA and it's a whole different story but it just doesn't sound right to me in stock form.
There were two models of AU XR6, the VCT has a primitive Variable Cam Timing setup, at 3700 RPM (I think, might be a different point near that somewhere) the cam timing is advanced a tad which gives you a fair kick in the back out to peak power. The VCT model got IRS as well, the extra weight of the IRS setup pretty much countered the power advantage over the HP model. (in a straight line anway, the VCT likes corners a bit better) The HP model was just the usual XR6 style warmer than standard 4 litre 6 and ran a live rear axle. Personally I'd go the HP as it's easier to mod. The VCT had a rep for being a bitch to do mild mods on, I bought my first car from a bloke who had a series one VCT, he put a set of paceys and a sports exhaust on it and it LOST 1rwkw from stock, gained a heap of torque through the midrange, but it just didn't like the extra flow up top.
Buggered if I know how the bodykits varied between series 1 through 3, I have enough trouble tellling EF from EL, VN from VP, VR from VS etc. without worrying about the subtle styling differences in minorly revised falcodores.![]()

I used to be a ford fan. Ever since I got my VS I loved holden. But I still like fords and they are built so tough. - My dad's second car is a ford. a EL 1990 model done 480,550K's still on original tranny and engine, radiator replaced only once. The old girl still spanks hard.
