Hey Im looking at getting a dvd recorder.
There seems to be heaps out there from $400 up to $1000?
Whats the difference between them all??
Any advice regards intergrated digital tuner? how many gig?
depends how much you want to spend, make sure it plays dvd-r dvd-rw dvd+r and dvd+rw everything else is a bonus. The more Hdd space the better. I'd probably shell out for a cheap one and in a years time when it craps itself get a heaps decent one because they'll be a lot cheaper then.
I'd go a pov brand or sony or panasonic steer clear of LG and samsung their burners suck. Sony is usually really easy to use.
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?
<davy> well look at him now
<davy> an alcoholic racist
ive got an lg one and it absolutely shits all over sony/panasonic ones, i use it at least 3 hours during week day and can be up to 7 hours on weekend with playing/burning dvd without a single problem, ive had it for a bit more than a year, cant speak of lg high enough especially their tv's, it also seals the with the 3 year factory warranty
I got a Tevion one from Aldi a while ago, 160gb HDD, 3 inputs, card slot, DV in, etc and apart from the far too basic editing function haven't had any dramas with it
It's going to depend on how much you want to record, if you are planning on keeping stuff on the hard drive, etc as I've been transferring a whole heap of 8mm, VHS, Mini DV, etc footage onto the hard drive and then off again onto DVD's to clean up a lot of the tapes I have stored around the house
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
Thats one big problem i have, too many vhs tapes around.
I was thinking of going a dvd recorder / vhs player as you can easily transfer vhs to dvd.
then in a few years time when vhs is non existant =P i will then get a hard drive.??
you could buy the dvd/hdd recorder you want and then buy the vcr separate ive learnt the hard way what dvd/vcr combos are like when either the dvd or vcr breaks beyond repair
well im picking up a panasonic dvd recorder vcr combo tonite from jb's.
if one breaks down i will still have my old vcr and my old dvd player.
the combo seems to be the go for me in easily recordes vhs to dvd.
ill finally be able to get rid of all the last 10years worth of bathursts and put it on dvd!!!
Any chance of copies of the Bathurst races once they are done ?![]()

You should wait for the Blue Ray disc players but don't know how long we'll have to wait till they become maintream, but yeah go for the LG DVD-R ones they are good.
