For anyone interested Winton is holding a fun day on the 28th January. Will cost you $25 to get in. This is a great day out for anyone who hasn't done it, it also gives you a chance to really give your car a workout(there are rules that apply to how fast you can go, i think its worked out on about 85% of car and driver), regardless you can legally under control, test your car well.
Just remember your car must pass a RWC and safety inspection.
I recommend anyone who can get there, go, you won't regret it.
Perhaps you Melbourne cruisers can organise a cruise day there?

Hmmm sounds good.
My brother might test out his ss there, he loves that track.
I'd like to go but I think all it will do is highlight the fact that I should have gotten a manual instead of an auto!![]()

OUCH! thats more then 2 hours away from melbourne *jaw drops* i think ill pass even though its VERRRRRRY tempting hahaha
This is the first auto I've ever owned. Every time I found a manual advertised it was sold by the time I'd enquired. Still getting use to the fact that I need to put the car into park when I get out. I keep leaving it in drive! Then the next time I get in I'm like wtf? Why won't it start??
If the track was wet I get out there. But I think I'd look like a tool driving an auto on a track.
haha i dont know what the auto's are like in the newer models but everyday driving mine looses traction without trying, maybe its my engine, maybe how i drive, i dont know but im pretty happy with an auto(would rather a manual but im happy).... and you have an ss? shouldnt be hard to loose traction in that wether its a auto or manual, mmmmmm v8 *drool* hahahaha
Half a tank of petrol to get there, half to get back, and a tank while your there.... Doesnt seem too bad! lol
It is very tempting... If I have new tyres by then I'll be there! Otherwise I won't pass the RWC... But shhhh, don't tell anyonehaha
Thanks for the tip minux!![]()
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

VT Calais II... The Italian Stallion
G'day Big Trev here, I coordinate the Fun Days on behalf of Winton.
Yes, you que up through the Scruitineering bay at the top of the hill and our scruitineers give it a once over, not that difficult to pass, particularly if it is a road car.
Here is a copy of a post I normally put up:
The next Winton Fun Day is scheduled for Sunday January 28th 2007.
The usual format applies:
Cost:
Is $25 per driver and $25 per passenger
Programme:
Normally be there by 8.00 for scrutineering, but this can take some time.
Drivers Briefing at around 9.00 - 9.30
Driver only on track for 30 minutes sighting laps, then
Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then
Driver only on track for 30 minutes, then
Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then
Driver only on track for 30 minutes, and so on all day until about 4.30
Requirements:
Bring your car, an Australian Standard Approved helmet, the helmet can be either open or closed face, fire proof clothes that cover you from neck to ankle to wrist (cotton or wool clothes are good). Runners are not the preferred footwear, Blundstones boots (or similar) or any leather type shoe is preferable
Make sure your car has no oil/coolant leaks, fitted seat belts, battery is secure, wheels nuts are tights, no loose items in the car or boot, if possible tow bar should be removed and no bull bars.
The Car does not have to be registered, but has to road/race worthy. There are normally no checks done of lights except for brake lights except if it is an overcast, rainy day, then there may be checks for lights as well as wipers. Tyres have to have no metal showing through, so it doesn't matter if they are a little bald (unless it rains for your safety though)
And very importantly, bring a smart, alert attitude, coz there is some very fast cars out there, whilst it is not a race meeting, some people bring race cars and the onus is on them to behave appropriately around first timers.
Food and drinks are available through a canteen
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!
