    Default Riots in Rye (NYE)

This is more for the Victorians. I was in Rye (down the peninsula) for NYE with a group of mates, bout 11:30 we all went to the pier area where all the party go-ers were.. was all good and sweet.. bout 11:50/55 there was a bit of a punch on, which esculated VERY ****ING QUICKLY.. ended up we bailed back to our cars.. before long there was bottles thrown, cops getting thier asses kicked, and in return kicking arse.. Pepper Spray, Battons, Cops on horses, Copper Chopper..

    Was pretty frightening..
    Anyone else there?

Sounds pretty f**ked man. There were mass brawls in Hindley Street in Adelaide apparently not long after I wandered through. Me and a couple of mates walked through a huge gang, which wasnt smart because we were completely smashed being smart arses as usual.

    Ruins a good night.

I would also like to have a whinge about bloody dress codes at pubs. F**k em!!! My mate got refused at a pub where all our mates were because he apparently had 'runners' on. They are just going out shoes that look a bit 'sporty'. Because he was rejected me and my other mate didnt go in either and this almost ruined our whole night. But we managed to find another half decent pub and the three of us got s**t faced and celebrated the new year (well I missed it because I went to the toilet).

Later in the night we went back and got in no worries. It would have been nice to be able to celebrate with the rest of our crew instead of just three of us.

    Sorry for the life story.

I was driving.. didn't have a touch of alcohol in me.
You may have walked past us.. there was about half a dozen cars parked RIGHT next to BP Servo, with music blaring outta the cars.. people hanging round em. bout 11:30 we walked up to the "party-go'ers".

i wasnt there but i was at st kilda beach with some mates, walking around and shit, then we decided to go into the city, we were going to go throught the main strip of shops and be idiots (like you do on nye) and we stop behind this car near macca's and there is 2 people fighting in the middle of the road and the car infront of me wasnt moving(i was the second car away from the fight) so im assuming the person out of the car infront was in the fight, then my mate is like "lets get the f*ck out of here", i personally wanted to see the brawl because like all you saw was people from all directions run into the fight but we done a u turn and drove off...... was still punch's being thrown as we were driving off... but i guess its better we didnt stick around..... i guess thats what happens true? by the sounds of it i think it was better u ran like f*ck trent hahaha. wouldnt of been nice to get into

I worked all night and like the rest of the emergency services we put our arses on the line so that everyone else can enjoy the celebration. We run the gauntlet only to see the gutless wonders starting crap in Rye and everywhere else.

How hard is it to just go out and have a good time without hurting someone else's fun?

    Weak as piss.

yes, because it is so funny seeing people that are paid to defend us being hurt. I hope that maybe you will get the shit beaten out of you and have a police officer laugh at you while its happening.

Too true, so many wankers around now who do not respect others and find it a laugh to start shit like this. I feel sorry for the kids growing up into this world.

I took my wife and 2 boys to port fairy for a bit of a look, it was good to get there early and suss things out, gives the kids something to do.
I can tell you tho' i don't miss that scene one bit, must be getting old....

Places like Rye have always had a bad rep for NYE, we went years ago and hung around for 15 minutes tops because of the huge 'idiot' element down there
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?

id personally like to say since i have lived in rye all my life im so sick of these f*ck wits that come down into my town and start sh*t.
schoolies and tourist can stay the f*ck away, people come down start fights walk in big groups think they are top of the food chain its all f*cking stupid and immature.
i think this will be a turning point for the pen,
they shut down blairgawie/sorrento every year and i think that its going to be getting moved, and out of the 500+ people down at the pier there was something like 40 locals the rest are tourist,
and if this wasnt the turning point then the next nye will be cause us locals are sick of it.

Well, just saw the news and some absolute winners wandering in front of the camera. My God, they seemed like their idea of a fun night out was hanging out the front of the 7-11. The morons they showed were typical of the uneducated iditos who cannot write their own names withoutr assistance from someone half their age.

Communites who work hard to create a perfect environment like this shouldn't have to put up with intimidating destructive behaviour.

I totally agree with you, like most of these events the locals aren't causing the trouble, it's the idiot element that comes to the area for the night

We have a problem with a couple of teenage gangs around our area and according to the local police most of the members come from the next suburb or two, obviously don't want to do anything to their area but it's ok to wreck other peoples neighbourhoods

I just can't understand the mentality of these idiots who choose to turn an event that should be celebrated into a S%#fight
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?

i quiet sad what happened, as for all those "tough" guys id like to see them take a cop on one on one, it shows how immature people are when they are around there mates trying to impress people, hell my friends and i are only 16 and 17 but we're not that immature, whats worse is that these d*ckheads are still around till early feb, i went down the street that other day to get something to eat only to have 4 20+yr old guys try to start a fight with me because they didnt like that look of me, quiet sad, i walked away thinking only a month left of this crap
