Without getting into the whole debate about spelling and grammar, and without picking on peoples typos (after all, we are on an internet forum!) I am interested in what new or old 'slang' annoys you.
Or maybe you use some yourself and care to explain why?
I can think of a few:
"i didnt do nothing" actually means you did do something!
"the movie was good but" using but instead of though? you CANT finish a sentence with 'but.'
"i seen one the other day" ...no... you saw it.
"it was real good"... or was it fake good? did you mean really good?
and not so much slang but one i used to hear in the shop all the time "you havnt got any oil have you?!" i could never be sure if it was a question or a statement.
I'm no grammar expert, but isnt is safe to assume most people can speak without adding putting 'hey' after everything they say?
I tend to think it is ignorance not a lack of knowing.
(yep, on holidays, waiting for some plaster to dry and a little bored)
Edit - couple of others i just remembered
Somethink, anythink, nothink .... I still dont understand how people can say it like that let alone type it!!!
"Should of" or "would of" when it is really "should have" and "would have"

this is obviously another example of Australia's fine education system.
i think kids today are actually taught to be stupid
or put a lot of the blame on MSN also
Well i was never good at english at school. I wish they had a class called australian instead. I would ace it.
Australia. Love it or leave it
what about no or noe instead of know?
Now i know you just said that to upset me (i am a teacher for those who dont know)
The biggest battle i have is with MSN, i even get kids who think it is ok to write 'lol' and 'mi' in their school-based writing. it really is a battle.
in your defense, i cant believe the number of teachers i know who actually say 'nothink' 'somethink' etc.
no i didn't say that to upset you.
it is something i have believed for a long time
speaked is another good one
i speak australian! cut every possible corner, its the easiest way to do it why the hell wud u say something when u can just say sumfen, or whatever?
LYK - like, wtf?
Gota love the aussie slang.
Australia. Love it or leave it

I hate when some tool types like that and thinks it's alright.
It's not so bad when you can understand them, but sometimes it's just irritating. Yeah we're on an internet forum, just to have some fun, but I wish some people would put more effort in what they type, instead of making themselves look like retards.
i dont like, when people put, commas in between, every few words.
Mr Squishi, I partially disagree with you on your view, I like sif but I agree with you on your disapproval on sifnt
I normally try to talk without slang on forums because plain english is easier to read than n00b, 1337 or short hand. Although I know I can be chronic for typo's and despite using Firefox 2 I rarely make use of the spell checker unless I know the word needs correcting to make it readable.
In life many find it hard to hear what i say because its a mixture of blurred words, slang and mumbling, also a lot of what I say is context sensitive.

New Zealand Secondary school students are aloud to use "txt" talk in their written exams. What has the world come to when we accept these abbreviations are "Proper English" for use in exams. As stated in the article shown below "txt" talk is not encouraged but accepted in exams (excluding English). Now English was never been my strongest point at school, and at times i have struggled with assignments and work, but through out this year i knuckled down and the greatly hated English became one of my strongest subjects.
The move to allow "txt" talk in New Zealand Exams proves that use of "Slang" is increasing and "Proper English" is declining. I myself use slang when i am on msn or txting, but i never use it when i am doing assignments or writing for others, as i know where to draw the line. I get disappointed when i read work written by people that is totally unreadable because every second word is abbreviated.
I personally would not support the move if it were to be adopted into Australia's education system, as it would be a encouragement for students to become lazy when it comes to their writing. The move will dumb down students, it may allow them to pass their SACE, HSC ect. but what about when these kids enter the workforce and are required to use "Proper English".
Reading and writing are two of the most important skill a person learns in their life, as we use them every day of our life's, there is a time and a place for everything, exams are not the time for "txt" talk.

I type u instead of you. I use msn alot but I always try and keep my slang to a minimum. Im trying not to turn into a stupid little teeny bopper.
I hate it when people say wiv, troof, anyfing, generally any word with 'th' pronounced as 'v' or 'f'. Also as far as txt talk is concerned, didn't it evolve as a result of the early mobile phones having a limited number of characters? Now there is no excuse not to type correctly on the phone except maybe to save a precious 5 - 10 seconds sending a message.
Have you also noticed how everyone replying in this thread is using proper english? roflpmslmfao
It made me laugh when I bought my new phone and found the dictionary understands most of the abbreviations...
One thing that really irritates me though is when people don't know the difference between loose and lose.
If you're not weird, you're not normal...
oh dear so it seems were are picking on spelling and grammar again. there is a thread just for that. do a search itll come up.
i know it will seem too much for some people but i really dont like people saying "me and jim" instead of the correct "jim and i" or "me and me mate" instead of "my mate and i".
infact i think the word mate is overused.
