I've been meaning to get one of these for a while but have no idea what to get, i don't want to over pay so price advice too would be great!![]()
I was after something that will hold around 200+ songs, i've looked around and there seems to be heaps of different ones to choose from.
It won't be used that much, just when i'm walking or at work from time to time.
I'm actually heading to the australian open and want it for the bus ride in a couple of weeks so any advice appreciated, as long as it's easy to use guys!![]()

god i hate ipods....easy to use, until you plug it into your computer. my computer eats ipods hey...put a mates in and it couldn't see it so i reset my computer and pllugged it back in and it said like contact apple. if i were u id look at a variety of different brands before deciding, go to harvey norman or sumthing and check out the range...u'll find ipods aren't that good really they are just real easy to use.

My dad has an iRiver. Thats pretty good. got radio and stuff on it. it can hold pictures, and heaps of songs. I think theyre a fair bit cheaper than ipods too.
I'd never get a chance to use the damned thing (thats if i even figured out how to use it in the first place)![]()
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

VT Calais II... The Italian Stallion
I've gotten a couple of 1 and 2 gig media players off Ebay and they are really good, the one i use when I'm out walking or anything is about the size of a pack of chewing gum and does about 8 hours on AAA battery, great sound quality as well once I ditched the cheap and nasty headphones it came with
The I-Rivers are excellent as well as MikesVT pointed out..
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
i wouldn't recommend ipods, as popular as they are, they suck and was voted dodgiest product of the year.
i got an ipod 80gb.. biggest waste of money
I suggest the iRivers, a couple of mates have em and haven't caused a problem so far and easier to use.

Thanks for your help guys, will check out these irivers today.
I have a nokia N70. Is my 2nd camera/vid recoder. It has 1 Gig of memory which shares pics and music. It holds over 200 songs and over 200 pics. and i sometimes use it to make calls!!![]()
If you were to look at gadgets which contain more that 1 gig check out the irivers - toshiba gigabeat - creative zen vision players.
and yeah stay away from the overrated ipod.... the other players have more bang for buck eg they come with all the connections and stuff and are windows media player capable.
iriver or a flash memory player by creative
just be sure to throw a couple of dollars at a good set of earphones, stock ones are like our beloved commodores stock exhausts, usable but there no punch
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
I sencond that^^ my Laser ones are crap, no bass whatsoever. They do have a clip that holds onto the MP3 player though. My good Philips one's dont
I have an iriver h320 (20gig light the ipod video size) and its awesome, I have dropped it when riding (at the skatepark) and its still working fine.
I had a cheap 256mb one from the warehouse and it was fine until one day about 2 months after i bought it the earphone port stopped working.
i would say iRiver or a creative one (i have heard there pretty good)
For my opinion, I wouldn't buy an iPod. Buy the iRiver - just as good sound quality as the iPod (that's the thing they really have going for them...), but they're much more nicely / solidly made. (I have the iRiver H120 - 20GB HDD based - it's bloody excellent)
The Creative units are nice too - not as "connectible" as the iRiver though - that's what sold me on it. Both harwired AND optical input AND outputs, magnesium case, damn nice unit. Although, the iPods are number one for small size - the iRiver is a little chunky...Size isn't the primary concern for me though - build quality and reliability is.

have a look at the creative muvo range also... you can have a 1gb for 99.95, and a 2gb for 149.95. Best value quality mp3 player out there at the moment me thinks
Anything with less than 2GB is a bit of a waste of time IMO. You just end up shuffling your music on and off there all the time to make space for new stuff as your music collection grows as I found out.
Get something with at least 20GB (preferably a lot more) so you can just keep on adding new music as you go.![]()
Also impotant is something with a rechargeable battery. You don't want to be feeding the unit a new $3 AAA cell every day or two.
Either iRiver or iPod are both excellent products for different reasons.
Whatever you get make sure to spend a bit more on some good earbuds, it's well worth it if you appeciate your music.
Either Shure or Sennheiser make some good ones.
why pay 300 or so bucks for a mini ipod when you can pay something like 370 now for a 30GB ipod?
iPods are sweet though. i love my video 30GB

Mmmm what to do!
Honestly thanks to all who have voiced their opinion, just one more stupid question.
What is flash memory???
It's solid state memory, the same as resides in the main memory of your PC (not your hard disk though). It consists of a series of memory chips that contain the data as a bunch of electrical charges, ie no moving parts
Things like the larger capacity iPods actually have a small hard drive disk in them that stores data in a magnetic format like an audio cassette or VHS tape for instance ie there are moving parts.
As usual, there are pro's and con's for both.
Hey There,
I have an Creative M Vision 30GB... It is won of the best MP3/MP4 Player i have ever used.
i got a 30gig ipod and its awesome... got plenty of vids on it, holds up to 7500 songs, never really had any probs with it
