As the title says, im in need of some recommendations on a daily. I was thinking a 4cycl as its cheap and not costly. Anything from the 1500 mark, what could i expect? thanks!!!
Nate
early excels are pretty cheap or a ford laser... yes its a ford but they still run ok
Get an old commodore... maybe a VK, and put it on gas. Will be heaps cheaper than a small car on unleaded, and still a decent sized car to get around in.
Just put my VS on gas not even 1 month ago and I'm loving it. It has not cost me more than $30 to fill yet, even the first fill from completely empty to full was only about $26 (with 4c off), and a tank has been getting me at least 400km. Close to 500km with highway driving. And the conversion cost me nothing too, which is a bonus.
get a corolla they are well known for their relaiblity no matter what there age is mine was made in '79 and all i have go wrong is the ignition barrel and that only cos of old age.
We got rep back, yaaay!
Yeah, the old corollas are fairly sturdy. So are the Coronas if you can get anybody to let go of one.

Yeah im thinking a old corolla will do the job, just an A to B car. Something that can take a beating in the carpark instead of my Calais

vn/vp on lpg
... big car, comfortable, reliable - costs me about $20/week for 400 odd kays.
they don't know how much to charge for small cars at the moment, the market is pretty crazy due to fuel prices.
plus remember you have a $2k rebate for installing LPG!
so you buy a $1,000 commodore, a $500 2nd hand gas setup
install gas into commodore at a price of say $1,000....
gov. gives you $2k, which pays for the gas setup, the installation, and half your car![]()
lol that sounds bloody good idea, will definately look into it!

N13 model Nissan Pulsar mate. I got one now, and they go pretty good on petrol, zippy little things too.
But as others have said, early model commo's switched to gas would be an awesome/cheap daily as well
Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast
Corollas are great, camrys are pretty similar. I have an 89 camry for which i paid $700. they're out there anywhere between $500 and $5000. even the larger shape ones are great value.
I was doing 1000km a week last year and getting about 600k's from a $60 fill on some pretty awful road (hills and corners). It never missed a beat. Parts are easy to get and pretty cheap and mostly do-it-yourlself. Mine had 230thou k's on it and is up around 275 now and is still great.
quick service every 10 000 k's and some premium fuel to keep it clean seems to be all those older camys and corollas need to punch along for quite some time.
