Thumbs down VIC - all current L and P platers read here, important info

just to give everyone a heads up, if your are on your p's as of the 1/july/08 (i think) reguardless of wheter or not your are legally alloud to drive a certain car now (such as a vs calais s/c v6) or whatever under victoria's power to weight ratio, you will not be alloud to legally drive this type of vehicle on p's as tighter restrictions are coming in banning all 8 cylinder vehicles, turboed and supercharged engines and all engines built as high perfomance . also worth noting is right now if you drive a car that you can't legally on p's you only get a $105 fine and no points, well when the tighter restrictions come in this also tightens up to over a $300 fine and 3 points, so as of the 1/july/08 if you get caught driving a car that is illegal for you to drive 2 times then that will mean 6 points which equals loss of licence. bad news ah

have a read through all of this to see if it effects you.
    http://www.arrivealive.vic.gov.au/c_youngGLS_1.html
this is the whole reason i sold my s/c v6 calais because this will effect me by the time i get my p's. this only came up about introducing these laws after i bought my vs and then i found out it would effect me so i sold the car cause i wouldn't be able to drive it on my p's. talk about pissed off

anyhow i just didn't want anyone to buy a car that sooner or later they won't be able to drive. it happened to me and as a result i could have lost money on my car after all the things i done to it, i don't want this to happen to others

    cheers from scv6calais

Hahahahahaha, I'm a provisional in Victoria, but I can still drive whatever I want. Even under the current power restrictions. Brent wants me to go in and test drive all 5.7 Senators etc.

But yes, the law applies to those that get their licence after that date. Or so I've been told by a trusted source.

Well i'm glad that stuff is all behind me.
10 years ago though when i was on p's most people in my area drove vh's with 202's or 253's so it didn't really matter, different story now.

yeah i was told that it only affected you if you got your p's after that date to, i think i does but not 100% sure as no one a vicroads anywhere even when you ring head office will confirm that yet as some changes to what is listed on the internet is already proposed. and to christina it all depends there is three stages and each one comes in at a different date. have a read on the other site, see if anything effects you (remember some changes are still propsed to all those listed) and if it does check what date the stage that affects you comes in.

but yeah again don't stress to much, just don't want anyone to get caught out like i did

anyhow hope everyone has a good evening

From 1 July 2008, the new P1 licences will be issued and everyone applying for a probationary licence will need to pass the same tests. (Drivers with a probationary licence issued before 1 July 2008 will be licensed under the old system.)
says it on the site, sorry mate, but unless you've gotta wait til after july 08(l's for 18 months?) to get your p's, you lucked out reeeaaaaal bad there, selling your super6.

1vngal. even if you have an exception for work, like i can get (i am not sure if you do, or even if you are on p plates) that only exempts you to drive a work related car for a work related errend. also if you go to a car dealership to test drive a car then your name, licence number, adress and that is usually recorded and usually someone comes with you so you can't really try them out, and usually on p's car dealerships won't allow you to drive them regardless of if you have an exemption or not as insurance won't cover for the above reason.and juzvy mate i wish it was all behind me too, all these roads and transport agencies are simply putting the real solution behind them, good roads and proper driver training and stop police from going to dohnut king during work.

but as i said what can we do other than continue to complain to express we aren't happy with there ideas that simply hide the real problem

BAN LOW PERFORMANCE DRIVERS, NOT HIGH PERFORMANCE VEHICLES.
what happens when you get off your p plates and drive a high performance car the first time, you have never really experienced power so you are at just as high of a risk because of course you will try it out somewhere won't you

Nope, no exception. I have a Tasmanian licence. Tassie licence = Tassie Rules. And I can drive whatever i want. For 3 months that applies. Then i have to transfer it over to Victorian.

bad luck. I dont care how good performance my car has. Well i do it has to be half decent but as long as it gets me where I have to go I dont care. If every P plater took that approach there wouldnt be as many crashes

what a joke. its not the car, its the driver. a ******** mate of mine managed to get his 1.3lt renault 19 off the clock on the highway so what diff does it make if your driving a gen4? the only diff is it will accelerate quicker. higher chance of snapping out. big whoop, any car can snap out in the wet if u boot it hard enuff so why does it matter?

    the authorities have no idea

You don't even have to boot it to spin out in the wet. Trust me, I've seen it time and time again, and it has been 100% pure accident. But your right, it's not the car, it's the driver. But what can we do? They're basing these new regulations on statistics and unfortunately, the statistics show that the majority of P-platers involved in accidents were driving cars with engines V6's and above.

Thats not to say though that all p-platers aren't able to drive them responsibly. They're just trying to save lives.

We go over this a million times and end up at the same point.

As a p plater i can see why they are trying to ban hi-po cars, the temptation to 'give it a bit' is too great for most people. If you drive around in a barina you're less likely to try and give it some stick off the lights or around a bend because you know you're driving a girls car and it's got no guts.

I can promise you if you put every hoon in a barina or similar instead of their VL/VN etc that yes, they'd thrash the car for a bit but then get over it and calm down.

That is all i have to say about this topic, it can continue for the next 1000 pages now...

The power restrictions by what they tell you will only effect P-plater after july1/07, wich effects me as ive got a 253 on gas , honstly were is the power in that as ive already driven a car wich has 200kw + at the flywheel wich id say a few other learners already have. Over the past couple of years the government and police have tried to stop P-platers from being killed by not allowing them to drive high powered cars of "V8's" wich is a load of crap.

If so why are these types of cars are on the road, its not becuse they are to powerful but that these P-platers who are hooning around and killing people and them selfs are being Co** heads while drive these cars during heavy traffic or when wet. And now for the people with common sense are being f'd in the but due to these co** heads.

Know they are banning aall V8's wich a load of crap as there are many 4cly and V6 that are just as powerfuly as these V8's, But they are not forcing these laws for Learner drivers wich makes know f'n sense if they dont wont P-plater driving them. Its not the cars wich are speeding but actually co** heads, its the same as the saying (guns dont kill people as the person holding the gun does).

Id suggest that these laws a described better first before put in place, and also make them very public so every one knows about them.
