Wow... Long thread title.
Anyway, this is a REALLY stupid question, but I've been told by 10!!!!!! people on seperate occaisions that I have my P plates on wrong and it's really starting to get to me.
How do you (or did you) display your P plates?
I have mine, front and back, on the top passanger side. Ive been told the front should be on the passanger side and the back on the drivers??
... Told you its a stupid question![]()
But wait... There's more!!

Doesn't matter unless the correct dimensions and White P on a red background is visible..
So make sure it's not hidden by the blue sun protector or anything else.
That is the only guideline..
Yeah I know all that... A little bit of the red is hidden on the front, and the back is behind tint. Tsk tsk, yes I know... the question wasnt really on the legality, but kind of, is there a certain way to have them on? Kind of like a fashion accessory, bah... Hard to explain what I mean![]()

i had mine behind the mirror, twin suction cap so its up againt the glass, from in the car you could only JUST see it above the mirror on the back well a VS has a perfect sized metal square on the boot for a magnetic one, the police never even made a mention about it ( though it was ripped in the lower right hand corner and faded a little

Actually, believe it or not there is a guideline to where they must be in Victoria and you can be fined if it is not done correctly. Bottom right rear, top left front.
I will find the actual law and post it up here tonight after work.

Mine is on the top passenger side on the front and top drivers side on the rear.
Never got any hassles.
I think the front one is meant to be towards the bottom of the windscreen... L Plates should have the info on the correct place to display them on the back if you kept them :P Unfortunatly, mine were accidently set on fire so I only have a hunch that that's right
their eyes were open, but still they were blind...
I would be interested to know why vic-roads will sell you the brackets that screw in to the bumper and numberplate areas then. Probably another one of those conflicting laws we wade through.
They can be quite pedantic about it. mine was behind 35%tint for 2 years before they said anything, then i had to move it. i screwed it down next to the numberplate. then i was pulled over and told it wasn't visible enough and ended up taping it to the outside of the window. wasn't much hassle but it was pretty objective.
i have my l plates on the bottom right for rear (half is not visible) and bottom left front( once again half of it is not visible). but i beleive that minux is right.

Its probably one of those "I want a reason to pull you over" things...
I think most police would just accept that if you can see it easily, thats good enough, but there will always be a few who need an excuse to pull over a P plater... and what better?
P plates are now mandatory for new license holders in Queensland I think... I hope they don't get that picky up here, not that it will affect me.

i'v just got mine at the bottom of both windows on the drivers side. the only way a get busted for my plates is the fact of not havin them on![]()
mine are at the bottom of the front window n rear window. i looked on the vicroads website and this is what it says
Driving on a probationary licence
After you pass your tests you will be issued with a probationary licence which allows you to drive under certain conditions. While driving you must:
have a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of .00%
not drive high powered vehicles
display P plates on the front and back of the vehicle
carry your driver licence with you
can only drive a vehicle with automatic transmission if the test was passed in an automatic vehicle. (Does not apply if you have previously held a manual licence)
so aslong there on the front n back of the windows its fine and not postion.
IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING.
mine are
front: passenger bottom corner
back: driver bottom corner
and ive been pulled over a couple times and they havnt said anything bout it.... so i guess its ok..... my mate ended up putting his behind his number plate on the back because his tint is that dark you cant see it haha.. and he hasnt got any trouble so i guess its ok aslong as you show them? unless the cop is like the one shaggers said hahaha
^ I think I should move the one on my rear because my tint is really dark.
One night I had a police car behind me for a little while with one of my break lights out, surely if they had seen the P they would have pulled me over.
Good to know that I'm not the only one who displays my P's differently![]()

Your not allowed to have them in the middle of your windscreen in SA
NSW P Plates:
Have P plates (Red/Green P on white background) displayed conspicuously at the front and rear of the car when driving. If placing P signs on windows, they must be held against the glass, be displayed conspicuously in the lower left-hand (passenger) side of the windscreen and on the lower left-hand side of the rear facing window and must not be placed on any other part of the window area. If towing a trailer, a P plate must be on the back of the trailer.
My rear P Plate is illegalBut they won't pull me up as I have 2 on the rear

Obviously he hadn't got any the night before so he decided to be an ***hole to me. If i had of been doing something wrong, I would of copped it sweet... but the thing is, he did it just to be a *astard. In hindsight, I should of braked when he was tail gating me and sued his arse off.Maybe you got the wrong one on the wrong night
