drug tests on the road

does anyone know what the go is with the new drug tests they're bringing in, or if theyre already doing it? ive heard alot of talk about it but havnt seen them enforcing it....
just curious as to how they do it, and if its a random thing that every cop has or would it be like a drug bus theyd set up just in different spots each night?


or better yet has anyone been busted yet? lol

they are already doing it here in sa, they have a special thing that goes on your tongue and it get's reading from your saliva

I think it's good they're doing something, damned if I want to be on the road with people who're so high they're a risk with an increased chance of them over-judging or underestimating something and causing an accident, possibly killing or severely injuring innocent people.. Drink driving is illegal over a limit for a reason, the same reason drug driving should be.

Personal opinions aside for a moment, I think they're already doing this and every booze bus is equipped to do the test (or was that every police car was a booze bus?).. grabbed this from wikipedia:

The law allows a police officer to require any driver (or any person who has driven a vehicle within the last three hours) to perform a random saliva test for methamphetamine, Cannabis or MDMA, all of which are subject to a zero limit (see Road Safety Act 1986: ss. 49, 55E & 55D)

its a strip they put on your tongue i think, they are bringing it to victoria, im not sure when, it could already be happening, as for anyone who has been, or gets busted, you deserve everything you get

I think the main problem people had here is the time the test takes to develop, approx 5 mins from what I remember.

if you're under the influence you shouldn't be driving, that said the whole "having driven in the past 3 hours" part is a bit odd.

also i wonder how sensitive it is, like the night before etc

Refuse? Then be prepared to lose your license, because that's what happens if you refuse.

And the fact that you weren't able to distinguish what speed you were going is an example, obviously your reflexes were horribly aligned if you thought 10-20km/h was 100km/h.. if you were going 50km/h you'd have felt like you were going a lot faster which clearly isn't safe

Just for the record I don't care if people do this stuff in their own homes where they're not hurting or risking anyone, it's when they're on public roads in cars which are dangerous (I know the driver is, but the vehicle is a means)

I think they have a drug bus here in nsw. I heard they only do around 1000 test's a year tho so it's not effective.

the swabs only detect weed if you have had a cone in the past 2 hours, and they detect speed, meth, ekies upto 24hr or 48 not sure on that one.

and then if you get detected you have to go have a blood test to further proove this.

Well with a bit of luck you'll be pulled over and asked to take one, i'd love to see you refuse and get away with it.

I have seen a report that says the drug test the cops do can even detect dope in your system even after having a cone or few a week or more ago. So if this is true and you smoked some and got tested a week later, you're likely stuffed.

In Vic, I think for the first offense it's a $300+ fine and after that it's loss of license etc...

I used to drive stoned, but I've quit now, If you've never smoked before and you smoke and drive you are a big threat as it hits u hard! where as if you smoked regularly the high weakens as you build up a tolerance to weed. But still I'm for the drug tests... to many kids think that they can smoke and drive and be safe but they don't know there limits until they've done it for about 2-3 years IMO.

cant be true mate, only way u will know if somthings been in ur system that long ago is a hair folecule test (where they test you hair for the substsnce) anyway your kidney would have got rid of it out of ur system by a couple of days atleast.

Oh yeah. I know when they first brought it into Victoria for a testing phase, there was a lot of crap talked about and what I said in my previous post was also talked about. I suppose they have fixed it up now so it's only detectable when you have recently used it.

Just been reading there govs website...

THC (weed) can be detected upto 5 hours after use
meth (speed) can be detected upto 24 hours after use
mdma (extacy) can be detected upto 24 hours after use

these 3 drugs are the ONLY drugs detectable by the kit

for having these drugs in your sytem will cost you $300 and 3 demerit points plus what ever the drugs cost :P
and then goes up evertime you get caught

for refusing the test its a $5-900 fine, 6 demerit points and 6 months disqualifcation.
and this goes up also if you refuse again next time.

u cannot get done for passive smoking.

if u get done, you have to have another test, and you also get a sample to have tested your self.

Incorrect the more THC you smoke they longer it can be detectable in your system. It can be in your system from a couple of day's to a couple of month's depending on how much you smoke. It is not detectable thru saliva tho it is in urine that is why some job's require a urine drug test. A good way to getting thc out of your system is to exercise and drink lot's of water.
