this may have been covered before, but who do you used to insure fairly to haevy modified vechiles? I have had a look over shannons website & looks like I cant use their online quote as it deals with factory options
So for project cars, with different from factory drivelines, mods, etc.... who do you use? what stuff is covered, what isint? what sort of money will I be paying?
D.
I think a lot of people use Just Car, dunno much about them though.
A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any other invention in human history, with the possible exception of handguns and tequila.
hey dannii i dont think you will find any online quote as u need a custom quote for custom cars, but i would say your on the right track the insurer. u should give them a ring.
is it manual
just cars arent all ther made out to be neither is shannons, altho there abit beta, just cars is just another div of AAMI.
well spoke to Shannons again today. I will have to send in photos or have it looked at by an assesor, but as long as the mods I do are legal & have certificates if needed, then they dont have a problem with any changes I makebut until I have done all the stuff they arent too keen on giving me any idea on quote.....
Oh well, just did a little reading to check on legalities of my little project & tis fine, doesnt even need to be inspected... so much yay!

i use Just car insurance, im 19 and a P plater
i pay $366 for 3rd party 12 month coverage +$150 for fire n theft
and my excess is
$650 standard
$600 age
$200 modified vehicle excess
i think something like that, round $1400~ excess if i crash
but im insured for this
1989 Vn calais
Turbo
Intercooler
bigger injectors
Blow off valve
Boost controller
Chip
Bodykit
Gas shocks
lowered
rims to the value of $800
bodykit
suspension
enterianment system
sound system
tinted windows
no inspection required, all covered, including occasional drivers
they'res not limit to what i can do to the car, i dont pay anymore than $200 extra excess and NO extra premium for the modifications, they're very helpful in dealing with claims(havnt had to make one against my own insurance yet as it was the other partys fault)
but yeah im happy with them, cheaper than RACV insurance
well i spose you will see how good they really are when ur get gets nicked or whatever ey.
I rang just cars, & they want to slug me $800 excess as well.... Im very used to my $250so not happy about that, & also they wont cover rims?? they consider the car too old/not enough value to have rims of decent value. which just sucks arse. Not happy Jan
they list market value as $2,600, or an agreed of $3,000.
wonder if Im game enough to ring my regular insurance & have them quote me lol

My s/c Calais is insured with Just Car for $10K agreed value, and the rims for $1000 or so. They will not cover my stereo, but other than that, they take every opportunity to remind me that I am allowed unlimited modifications as long as I tell them about it.
My premium is $1400 a year for full comp, and excess is something crazy like $900 in total. I am 21 and have no traffic infringements or criminal record.
* Phreddy's Blaupunkt Aux input and line out mod
* 18x8 inch Equus Kalibur Wheels with Maxxis MAV-1 235/40R18
* Sureflo 3.5 inch medium-loud cat back exhaust
If you're over 25 and have a decent driving record, don't bother with Just Cars, AAMI will insure you, they allow unlimited mods for drivers over 25 as far as I know, and are cheaper by a mile.
Shannons is also obviously your other option.
Also try www.uniquecar.com.au
yeah, justcar is for the yoingins like me with wads of cash, because in reality, no one else will insure me except just car, ammi wont touch me, shannons wont touch me, RACV would laugh at me...
ever tried insuring a 2001 statesman gen3 when you're 18??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, thats all i heard!! everyone classes it as high performance, my reply...how can a 2tonne car with the power to weight ratio of a mack truck be high performance? the only people to lend a hand was RAC-WA, but not cheap. $3500 a year, agreed at $27000, full comp. just car are cheaper, but dont give u the option of monthly payments, sadly after spending $27000 in one day at Brian Gardners, i couldnt afford another $2000 for insurance
LOCK-HER
aami and just cars suck balls big time and so does racv and the rest of them who dont give you choice of your own repairer.
they slug you with a huge exess if youre young and then they have the nerve to tell you that you must go to one of their recommended repaiers to get a quote. this quote is usually pretty cheap so any other panel beater will find it hard to beat it. this means that your pride and joy is going to be repaired by someone that has to pump out heaps of work to make some money because they have to go by the contract they signed with aami to be a recommended repairer which im pretty sure its only $17ph which is bull****.
in the end they cut corners and the job isnt that good from what ive seen.
i hate them all lol
maybe ring up a couple of insurance compainies that haven't been suggested 1. qbc 2.sgic i ould have no idea on what they would charge or anything but if i was u i would ring as many as u can to find best price and options.
We got rep back, yaaay!
