Default What's up with you guys?

First I hear that Qantas won't let a guy on one of their flight's to London unless he removes his tee shirt that says "George dubya is a terrorist" on it.Then the organisers of the big day out(the day before Australia Day) are discouraging people from taking Australian flags into the venue incase it encourages race riots WTF? What's wrong with taking a bit of pride in a nation?? It's something I admire in Australians, you're so proud of being Australian, that's why your sports teams are so strong, there is such a pride in playing for the green and gold, only wish the NZ cricket team had the same attitude .
You guys aren't getting soft on it are you? Hope you aren't going the way of England where PC has got such a hold that you can't be a traditional Englishman anymore incase you "offend"one of the other groups of residents.
    My 2 cents worth anyways..

Big day out is about music not waving the flag around like a bunch of yobbos. Most people should see that they dont want the big day out to turn into another crounlla, i dont see how people can be offended. Its not a political rally it a music festival where i bunch of twits pill off there head and make a fuss but normal people like me go to enjoy the tunes. Its the twits that will start the trouble and it will because of aussie pride. Be proud i say just go for the tunes and not to start a fight. Now go on tell me im wrong ....

Whats wrong with us is our immigration policy, our government let in a bunch of ethnics. True Aussies are patriotic and love their country, this is much to the disgust of some of the ethnic groups that unfortunately reside here. These people don't consider themselves as Australians, their allegiance lies in their war torn country and they attak anything and anyone that is Australian. The big day out organisers would have realised this and are trying to prevent any inflammatory situations with these ethnic thugs.

I don't agree with it, I think its disgusting but I'm just telling it how it is.

But dont you think that its best to keep the peace insted of inciting racial hatred? Its about music not race wars.

It's not just the big day out tho,if they are allowed to start at an event such as this, where does it stop? before you know it it will progress to displaying a flag anywhere as the argument "it incites racial disharmony" will become the common rule for anything thought to be nationalistic. Why not just police the twit's and louts and stop them beating each other to a pulp(or let them do it on the central stage!!) instead of penalising joe citizen or his child from waving a flag.I'm not against avoiding trouble,I'm just against the big brother attitude of penalising everybody for the sake of a minority of idiots that want to fight.
You say it's about music and not race wars,I'll agree with you there,it isn't, but isn't it the same as saying "you can't enter the big day out in that 'Tool' shirt incase it offends the 6 Metallica fans that have already gone through"?

well Julie's right, but wrong. it's not an "ethnic group" as such, but a bunch of people of a certain ethnicity, which are causing these problems. we all know which mob it is too.
The only way to kurb the violence and hatred, is to send them away, and stop any more from coming here. but if anything of this nature (or anything at all to single out this minority) then it's called racial hatred on our behalf. We're basically required to sit back and allow this bull**** attitude to continue. We will see Cronulla 2.0, maybe even version 3, before anything solid is done to stop this. Does anyone remember what lil Johnny said about the riots? probly nothing at all, mainly because he's spinless on this issue

Im with you mate, it seems that in saying that im proud to be an aussie ,I am been racist.
I personally dont have a problem with other nationalities residing here BUT if you want to live in aus you should be an aussie. Everybody who wants to live in this country should be flying the AUSTRALIAN flag in harmony. It is still fine to take pride in your heritage but if you want to live here you should take pride in our heritage too, or go and fly some other flag somewhere else.

Please dont take that the wrong way, I dont care what nationality people, as long as we are all here we should be all australian togeather. IE, if you have a problem with our flag, thats a bit wrong really.

just my 2c, not starting anything.

I just started this thread because as I said,I admire your sense of pride you have in your country and I guess I would hate to see the P.C brigade getting a firm hand there too.Don't intend it to get too messy and flamey, just want you guys to keep Australia "Australian".

What I meant by that was that if people want to fight, they will find a reason (any reason no matter how stupid) to do so.It won't be just over a flag,it was over a game of tennis the other day! They didn't stop the public from watching the match "incase" there could be racial tension, the police came down hard on the idots that just went there looking for trouble (I would say because they knew there would be members of the opposite faction there) and everybody else got to watch a game of tennis.....No problem.

I agree with a lot of posts in this thread, this PC s**t is getting over the top, a bunch of sooks, and the wankers starting the fights over people "refusing to kiss the Aussie flag" or whatever are retards and not my ideal idea of the image I want my country's "patriots" to come across as.

From a country all about "fair go" ideals and accepting people's personal choices and rights to certain things, this is pretty disgraceful stuff.

Mate I agree with you. Problem is you start getting people that use the flag in ways that I would class as Un-Australian. Last year an anglo male was punched in the face by another anglo male because he refused to kiss the flag that the guy was carrying. Reason being that the guy was using the flag in a raciest manner. Thats not what this country is about, and even than this country is a free country and you shouldn't have to kiss the flag if you dont want too.

Saying that I wouldn't ban the flag from any part of Australia because it's part of us, no matter where you originated from.

heh, once again PC gone too far, anyone who even defends banning the flag is an even bigger wanker then the BDO organisers.

Once again we are stepping lightly on the toes of the DM's.

Totally agree... how is the australian flag a source of hatrid to quote the radio today. if you dont like it go home to wherever you come from and dont come back.

Australia is becoming proof multicultural countries dont work.

to quote what a mate said its a case of TLW syndrome and bloody groups coming over for a better life and making **** worse for the rest of us.

same as the noble park riots. TLW syndrome again (tough little wog syndrome) more foreign people there than aussies.

It's not about where they've banned it, it's the whole idea in general. Pretty soon anything Australian will be banned from anywhere remotely public in case we offend someone.

They came to our country, they should deal with our way of life, our rules and our rights to be Australian. And besides, if their country was so bad to make them want to leave, then why the hell are they trying to turn Australia into it?

God Manda and others, that's something that pisses me off. "They" didn't come here. Their parents did, they never had a choice in the matter. Sure enough they should respect the country as it's probably a lot better than the country their parents or parents parents came from (otherwise they would still be living there, true?) They were born here.. where are they going to go back to? Here?

But again I agree, no national pride and only being Australian when it suits them, the rest of the time they're not Aussies, they're ****** (insert country their parents parents came from).

No matter what you want or think and no matter how much they claim, they're Australian. Probably as Australian as you or me. It's black and white, if they're a citizen they're Australian.

well since offense is the reason that they are banning flags, ban the big day out, its an offense to everyone else that they are banning flags.

    BAN THE BDO.

    ban everything that is offensive.

**me thinks of that my hanky episode of south park where thay banned everything because it was offensive.

I know that, but it's the parents that enforce these idea and beliefs into them in the first place. I don't doubt that they are 'legally' Australian, but it's their whole attitude that stinks.
