I've had PS1 and then PS2 and am waiting for PS3. However after playing a few 360 xbox games I'm leaning towards it. Graphics and speed of gameplay are awesome. It'll be interesting to see how the PS3 goes. Xbox games are more expensive but there are some great games on it and ones that are exclusive to xbox. hard to tell which to get. Probably shouldn't play either, the missus is already pissed at me enough due to the three car project in the shed which need finishing!!
My PC > Those Consoles
I had a Wii, sold it lol.. lacked power
Which games mate?
I know emulation for the PC is possible of consoles up to the PS2 (some games only), XBOX (turok only lol) and Dreamcast (heaps of games), pretty much everything released prior to them can be emulated; N64, PSone, Saturn, SNES, NES, Mega Drive, Master System, Atari's, the list bloody goes on and on lol
X360, PS3 and Wii can't be emulated yet, PS3 can run emulators from Linux for older systems, X360 I'm not sure it can run emulators yet though not sure and Wii nope nothing on that front either..
I was probably exaggerating, technically my PC would only be faster than a Wii in terms of processing power but features it's got them all beat lol

i would get the ps3 the only reason being is i have games from ps2, but i would get the xbox if i had no games
PS3 will be $1000 to start with. Thats with a 60gig hard drive. Not really worth the money. Has anyone played Saints Row? I played it on amates 360 last week it was mad. I just love kicking around the people you kill haha
think of 3DO

cheap? I dont know what you do for a living but on my wage thats very expensive. And considering the cost of games on to of that. Heard they will be around $200.
yeh but that was what the ps2 and even the ps1 was when it was relesed... give it a few months if your not too impatiant and it will have a price drop... like the 1st xbox.. a mate bought it the day it came out and like a week later it dropped 300$ coz they didnt sell as well as what they thought, he was pissed!
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
60 gig hdd
what they think thats big
for that money i would like to have a 320 gig hdd in it like my pc
store all my music on it and other ****
'I always thought xbox was a straight edge kid called bo.' :my:
i was pretty pissed too.they tried to make it up to me by giving me a couple of free games which were CRAP. i'd like to upgrade to a 360 but no point until i get a HD plasma. the only reason i'd get ps3 is gran turismo. but xbox has DOA beach volleyball which you can get a download for to make the girls play naked

haha bangers... pretty lame when you and your mates drool over CGI porn... i like the playstations for the easy-to-use controlers... xbox are to bulky and i dont like the fact that with most games you cant use the D pad... i like the D pad dammit!
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
the xbox360 controlls are schmick. they fit to your hand nicely, unlike the ps2 controls, which are just oddly shaped (i cant wait to see the new ps3 controlls though)..
i have an xbox360 myself, and the graphics, gameplay, gamespeed etc are awesome.
the only thing thats changing with the new ps3 is the blue ray technology (as far as i know) and the hard drive.
this doesnt increase gamespeed or anything like that, infact they use the same chips in the ps2 as the ps3. all blue ray technology does is make the display alot crisper and clearer (as i saw in Jb-hifi). this will increase the graphics alot, but if the gameplay is still slow then why bother?![]()

dont they have an inbuilt burner aswell??
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
I've got an XBOX 360 controller and I agree, best OEM game controller I've ever used (modded mine so it has two large haptic feedback motors instead of one big & one small). Also the PS3 controller is exactly the same shape as the PS2 Dual Shock which is the same shape as the PS1 controller.
Actually the PS3 is an amazingly advanced piece of equipment, a lot more advancements than just a drive upgrade. Has specs that would put most high end modern PCs to shame except for $4,000 and up gaming PCs.. it's a damn bargain considering what it is and every single PS3 sold at $1,000 AU is being sold at a loss to Sony. PS2 also had a hard drive enclosure and some games needed it.
That's completely untrue. The PS2 has a 300MHz single core CPU while the PS3 has an eight core 3000MHz CPU. Also the PS3 has the use of blu-ray discs which means games can be up to 50GB in size versus the XBOX 360 which is limited to 8.7GB (Microsoft made a statement saying they would never release games on the usb plug in HD-DVD drive which is available), and at the end of the day a game is only as good as its developers.. it'll take time but PS3 games will get a whole lot better once developers start making use of all the cores and stuff.
No. Blu-Ray burners alone cost about as much as a PS3.Originally Posted by walesy_5.0
PS3 has been getting a lot of bad press though, my coverage over at DARKCOLD in the Sony category shows this: http://tinyurl.com/2je6fo (link goes to the Sony category)

Where the f*** did you hear that? The PS3 is a much, much more powerful machine than the PS2! They created a new CPU specifically for the PS3 called the Cell Processor. How can you say it uses the same chips?
As a general comparison, without posting all the specs and confusing everyone... the PS3 has a total system floating point performance of 2 TFLOPS, compared with the PS2's mere 6.2 GFLOPS. Now I can't tell you exactly what that means, but to jump from just 6.2 GiggaFLOPS up to 2 TerraFLOPS... it must be a damn good improvement!
PS2 CPU Clock speed: 300 MHz
PS3 CPU Clock speed: 3.2 GHz
Gameplay speed will definitely be improved. Microsoft themselves also admitted that Sony had the upper hand performance wise this time around.
I play the Xbox 360 every now and then... graphics are amazing and gameplay is always very smooth and fast. I am very impressed with it actually. I don't see the PS3 being that much better, not that it will be noticeable to the eye anyway. It may pull up better under tests and whatnot, but to the average player I don't really think there will be a huge difference between the two consoles. Who knows though, I could be very wrong... will just have to wait for the PS3 to come out so we can compare.
And to answer the tread topic... if I was to get either one of these consoles I'd probably get the PS3. I've been a Playstation fan since the first one came out, and never really got into the Xbox so I'd stick with what I know best. Having said that though, I don't see myself buying either one of these consoles... except for maybe years down the track when they are selling for $100 or something.
okay my mistake on most of what i said, but i was only passing through info that i had been told by people that work in gaming stores (EBgames and such)
i suppose with the ps3 being $1000 on release its gunna be better, i suppose its just up to you how much you wanna spend.
Hey There,![]()
To be honest i am loving the Xbox 360 controllers I think they are innovative they are confortable unlike the playstation.
Also when Having an Xbox 360 I think that it is essential that u have to have Xbox live...![]()
Download game trailers, themes, music video and Updates to anygame that you may own.![]()
I honestly Think microsoft has finally done something right for once.
I hope that Playstation has something online that is as good as xbox live.
The only thing remarkable about it is the Blu Ray drive.
The processor it has is incredibly difficult to develop for, and the graphics card has a ridiculous amount of bottlenecks, ontop of a pretty poor developers kit, the PS3 is marred with major flaws.
It was an ambitious project without question, but I think you'll find alot of developers will actually go with the Xbox this round, purely because of the ease to develop for. With the toolkits available for the xbox, it is not difficult to develop windows games and xbox games in parallel with minor tweaks for the hardware. The PS3 requires a complete turnaround in development strategies and mindsets to get your mind around the 7 specialised CPU cells let alone thinking about developing for other platforms.
Techinically speaking the PS3 is the most powerful (excluding the GPU), however, they overlooked one thing when devising the system. Cross platform development, companies like EA, THQ, Activision etc etc develop for all platforms, now if they get a system that is so different from everything else in terms of approach to development, they will not make the time to utilise all the functionality of the system, or make it run at full spec, they merely may just make the minimum and get it running in an albeit cut down version. So in fact while being technically superior, they may make their games worse. I think we'll find that a few years down the track, "exclusive titles" may look better on the PS3, but cross platform titles will be on par, if not worse.
As for the space issues on DVD v Blu Ray, the only thing that consumes major space is HD FMV content, anything rendered in game does not consume any more space than what is required for a DVD. There aren't many games that go down the FMV path these days purely because the in game rendered stuff is pretty damn good. So movie playback is the only area they make gains in there.
Realistically both are exceptional systems, it all depends on how developers approach them. Both systems running at full spec, I think we'll find its very hard to tell the difference between the two (the xbox has the GPU, the ps3 has the CPU).
Speaking to my cousin, who works for THQ as a developer, he has alot of concerns about the PS3, and whether or not they'll take the system seriously.
As for your comments about being sold at a loss. Every console is sold at a loss at launch, then as sales increase the manufacturers get economies of scale and cut down costs. The consoles themselves are not money making machines, its the games that make money, and licensing.
And no I'm not a fanboy, I'm just a software developer that understands the hurdles in development, and has also spoken to quite a few people in the games industry.
Very interesting post, a big selling point to me when buying a gaming console is simply how many games they have and how good those games are, and also will there be plenty more to follow, i liked the xbox and had one for a few years so thats my reasoning for going to the xbox 360 and no complaints here, i love it...just having a problem getting norm xbox games to play..im pretty sure you can do it...just havn't worked it out yet

i just want the next GTA game and ill be happy![]()
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
i have a PS2 and i'm tempted to buy an Xbox360, but if i do that i would have to buy all new games again which is a real ****
if i buy PS3 i assume my PS2 games will work on it. On the other hand, all games need to be upgraded at some stage (hopefully FIFA 2008 will have the A-League and Fight Night Rd.4 can have some international boxers) so maybe...
i still think i'm leaning towards the PS3, but i suspect that with the intro of the PS3, either the xbox will stay at the same price, or come down. it will have to come down eventually, because no matter how advanced it is, it is no match for the ps3, and people will realise that. they won't pay $xx for a xbox when the ps3 is only $xx dearer.
In conclusion, we will be able to afford them all easily... just in a long time away...
