Hey there you guys this ones mainly for the QLD (southeast) gang but feel free to add yyour thoughts.
What your opinion of the Governments move to get rid of the referendum and just start using recycled water??
My thought... bout bloody time.
Cheers,

Agree with the above. Its quite obvious that the referendum was only an option because the government wanted to probe for support before making a decision. They will not make a move unless it is widely supported, regardless of whether its best for the community or not.
I really hope nobody on here is against recycled water because you'd have to be utterly STUPID to reject it. My boss jokingly refers to it as the "from your ass to your glass" campaign, and we all have a good laugh, but I am still 110% for it.
Water restrictions are stupid... conservation is not the best option. Conservation is what you do when you have less than you need, fair enough, but I think instead of trying to use less, we should be trying to create more or create an alternative. Same goes for electricity, fossil fuels, etc.
Don't get me started though!!! lol

well they've got to do something i spose, and the sooner the better. i think people just dont like the sound of using recycled water, its doesnt conjure the most pleasant images.
from what i understand they've been doing this in places like the US for years and the water is more pure than that which is taken from reservoirs/dams because of the treatments it goes through.
i dont think the referendum isnt needed, its wasting time and if the answer ends up being "no" then the recycled water idea is just going to be forced upon us in the end anyway.
I think we should hold the referendum... anyone who says no to recycled water should have their right to vote revoked as they obviously would rather die than excercise common senseI reckon every election after that would actually result in a competent government haha.

Desalination plants are a far better and more widely excepted option............but governments being what they are don't want to spend the big dollars they cost.

Its a bandaid on a broken arm but at least its a start. Dont need a vote IMO and if you dont wanna drink it then go buy some. As if anyone will be able to tell the diff!! My 2c

I'm not keen on drinking recycled water, but I have no problem using it for washing the car or in the garden. I think desalination is a better option for drinking water, but it uses a large amount of money and energy which would ultimately be passed on to the end user, US. I am a little happier knowing that it is going back into the dams for further processing before it ends in my glass.
I'm just glad they are doing something. Still more does need to be done as these restrictions are beyond a joke. I'm getting tired of not being able to wash my car properly with a hose while the old dear across the road gets up at 3:30am each morning to secretly hose her lawn. There are people who understand that there is a problem and others that just don't seem to care.
Jezz
I wouldnt use recycled water for drinking. Dont matter how pure the water is just thinking about where it come's from would make me sick while drinking it.
they say when you drink it its been drank 16 times before you, i was a little put off by that comment , but they also say that the water is filtered more than and is cleaner than the regular tap water we use now so i dunno what the go is with that but all in all i think it is a good idea
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
what people dont realise is that county towns etc are allready drinking recycled water, you just dont realise it
eg,
Town A flushes its treated water back into the river, than, Town B 50km down stream then collects the water in the dam, people drink it gets treated and is sent to the next town etc etc,
and yes some of it gets irrigated but most of it is released back into a waterway
i personally dont have an issue with it
Yes well the Government has always had the option of giving us recycled water even after a no vote. So just by that they are saving millions that they can then use in the infrastucture and so on, also i think there going to give some back in the rebate scheme.
Some people dont realise that the water from the dam only gets treated once or twice max. However the proposed water will be treated atleast 6/7 times before being returned to the dams etc then getting treated a further once or twice before being delivered to our homes. I have no problem drinking it showing in it or doing whatever in it. They have been using recycled water in the UK for years and years, and there ok (sort of still crap at cricket).
The time has come where something needs to be done, and im glad they made the outright decision to bring it in A) Saves our tax payers money (millions of it). B) Desperate times C) Who cares we will have water. For all you that say you wouldnt drink it then thats you opinion, its the wrong one but its your opinion.
Its not like theres gonna be nuggets floating in your glass, or your gonna get a nutella smile. Its water... cleaner than what we already drink now, theres cow s*** and horse S*** and dingo and fox s*** out there thats in our water systems which only gets treated twice and everyone is fine with that.
But thats all i have to say on it for now.

yuh. the thought turns me off, while i drink my water (already had 5 PURE litres today) i would be thinking, "damm man, something smells a little funky"!
no... but seriously.... yuk. i wouldn't drink recycled water, but i guess we might have to eventually.... yuh.....
it will rain soon, i know.
i reckon it will, there'd be billions of litres in the sky... i hope..
anyway, what about that bit of sewage that passes the filtrations? anyone thought of that.... i pity the poor person... turned off for life.
i have to drink my own pee because sometimes i take 40 minute showers.
i think they should hurry the hell up and do it allready! im so sick hearing people say they wouldn't drink it and **** beacuse of where its been... when you think about it, eggs are chickens period... how ###'d is that! People are stupid, its ****s me sometimes.
And sthose that think the bottled water from a store is actually healthier for them... ahahahahhahahahah man thats funny! hahahah
I still think that its major government conspiracy of some kind however i cant work out what it is yet.... you can never be too sure when sammy smooth suite has a mjor issue... hmmmm
yay recycled water!
aZk.
Christina... the water you drink every day has been through the digestive systems of thousands of animals before it got to you i assure you that. It's been in the droppings of dinosaurs and the vomit of drunks. Where do you think the water goes when you flush the toilet? We don't send it by rocket towards the sun now do we? It goes into a sewage treatment plant, and out into the ocean... then where does it go? up into the sky by evaporation... then it falls as rain, and fills up the dams, and finally, into your glass of "pure" water.
There is a FIXED amount of water on this planet. No significant amount of water is created, and no significant amount of water is destroyed. Didn't you learn the water cycle in primary school?
Personally I'd rather drink water thats been precision filtered, processed, and tested for quality than some crap that fell from the sky, ran through kangaroo and cow poo, into a giant puddle that we drink from.

Here, here.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
Bring on the recycled water. Were all in this for the long haul so we have to start preparing for it. If any radelaide forum members read this there is a rumour going around saying that Pt Stanvac is going to become a desalination plant. and for those who say they cant stand drinking recycled water think about the current water for a while.....nothing against anyone here because we all have our own opinions
Cheers
Like some of the others have alluded to, where do you think the water coming out of your taps came from in the first place? If you're willing to drink water out of a muddy dam or bore (which I can guarantee has things living eating and crapping in it) that get's stored in a header tank with a full foot of organic sludge at the bottom, why are you so queasy about the idea of drinking purified waste water? It's the same damn stuff, in fact probably of a better quality than most drinking supplies in Australia.
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

I prefer my water to come from the dam no matter how filthy they are at least it's not 100% recycled bodily fluids (and crap paper, toilet cleaner and whatever else you throw in the loo). they can put it through processing 100 times over, it's not going to make that mental image any better and for some thats enough reason to say no, and fair enough, just like those who love to drink from the bowl so to speak, your choice fair enough just don't breath near me.![]()
