Hey guys i want to upgrade my PC Mainly motherboard, RAM, and maybe processor.
What would you reccomend?? Oh and my current vid card is a 7800gs AGP, at the moment i have 1GB of RAM wouldnt mind getting 2, i mainly want it for gaming so i was thinking a dual core AMD or something.
Also would i need a bigger powersupply??
Cheers,
Brownie
Forgive me lord for i have sinned, I hit 4th gear jump5th gear pinned:b:
well new motherboards dont support AGP graphics anymore, and new motherboards dont suppor the old ram nemore.
Therefore, you get a new motherboard, you will need a new PCI-E graphics card. Then new DDR2 ram. Middle range core 2 duo cpu is the Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 which will do you fine. As will 1 gig of DDR2, go 2 if u have the money. Dont spend any less than $140 on an Asus motherboard, that way it is a descent motherboard and you can easily upgrade your other components later on. As for graphics, it has to be PCI-E these days, depends what games you play to what card you will need really, atm, 7600GT is the lower end of modern graphics, 7800GT and 7950GT is getting up there.
For AMD CPU, AM2 3800+ will do ya sweet.
Cheers mate thanx, I didnt want to hear that AGP isnt supported anymore as i have just bought the graphics a couple of months ago!! But thanx for the info man. Maybe i can hock it off to a mate.

Yeah that would be the best thing to do,
Stephen's right, the GeForce 7 series (7xxx) are the last cards from nVIDIA that supports AGP.. hey actually, looking at the list it's the last card they ever made to support AGP is your 7800GS!
For a graphics card I can't not recommend the 7900GS if you want another 7 series, it's directly positioned between the 7600GT and 7900GT and is much closer to the 7900GT, literally being a 7900GT with one less vertex shader and four less pixel shaders (and some of the ones made by BFG are really 7900GTs with the pipelines locked, and they can be unlocked!)
This is a nice comparison of cards:

And also recommend a new PSU if you're using one that came with the chassis as they're no good, though if it has at least the 6 pin power cable for the graphics card then in theory it should be OK
