Sounds like you wont be able to get your Ps until after 1st July this year right?

if so, do not buy anything with a V8 in it, or turbo/supercharged, etc etc, as from the 1st of july the new restrictions for L and P platers come in, and you wont be able to drive it.

it won't affect you on your Ls as you will be getting them soon, but the restrictions WILL affect your provisional licence if you get it after the 1st of July. These laws are for QLD, more info on the QLD transport site.

but may be diff for you..im in NSW and get my p's in 3 weeks

    good luck champ

you can drive anything on L plates in NSW, when you're on your P's don't think about driving an SS, you'll get done and bye bye car. not sure on QLD though, I am assuming it is the same.

anyway, an SS on L's???!!!???!! learn on a 6 first!...

laws came in 2 years ago this July, new rules are different to power restrictions, regardless of when they came in, it is still illegal for new P platers affected by the v8, TURBO, supercharger rules.
you can get exemptions, if you can prove that you owned your car before these rules came out in 2005... i don't think you'll be able to, or if the car is the ONLY family car... you could get an exemption. - once again, NSW laws.

don't get over excited about going for massive ammounts of power, we all have to go through the P's before we can own a big ass v8, best advice is to deal with it.

L's you'll be able to drive it, I drove a 5.7lt on mine

The way P plater laws are headed we'll be riding push bikes...

But only 10 speed bikes... lets not go crazy!

    But wait... There's more!!

    But that's not all!!!

from what i could gather on that other forum, you can still tchnically drive a VT 5L clubby or SS, as they are just under the power/weight ratio.

obviously going by everyone else tho, thats out the window now.

i think Victoria is the only state which uses the power to weight ratio and your car has to weigh a ****LOAD to be able to drive a turbo/supercharged/v8....

I was reading the letters in the newspaper and this old lady wrote in saying P platers should be restricted to 1.5L cars and progress to bigger engine sizes over months, if they haven't been done for anything. like WTF?? we'd be changing cars every 2 months!

those power:weight ratios are sensible, are they still happening in vic/sa? The new laws coming in during july in QLD are all over the place at the moment...

buy a 6, deal with it for 3 or so years, while you save for a V8, instead of going through finance

its not that simple. i've never really been able to save consistantly after having problems with the current car at the time.

i found it easier to buy the V8, and mod it as neccesary, and pay extra off the loan. (personal Experience)

I believe on L's you can drive anything, as of June or July 1st that changes here for P Platers only, no more power to weight.

But anyway,i fink you should go wif the v8 and be fully sik and do burnouts and stufs.

lol loans for 30k? Just for a car? Do people not know how to save anymore?

I have mates who do the same and makes me laugh, they have as much income as i yet always seem to be broke.

he owns an Evo 7, it wasn't actually 30k, he paid off a bit in cash and 6 or so thousand on trade in.

thankfully, i owe nobody anything on my car.

    5 years?????
how long are P plates for in QLD? i thought it was optional to wear them???

i think MikesVT has a post in the pub about the same sort of thing you're enquiring about, eg, getting caught with a V8.
there's nothing stopping you from driving one theoretically, but if you get caught, i'm pretty sure in sydney it can be confiscated.

thank the morons out there who have screwed it up for everyone else, that's how it is really.

Save? Nah. Times have changed. No one saves anymore. I saw a recent thing on TV that showed the majority of Australian's are instead of saving, spending money on the latest and greatest. TV's, sound systems, cars, everything. Probably explains why a lot more young people don't leave their parents homes at a young age anymore.

Haha. Might as well stay at home whilst the rent is cheap. Besides, the parents in their 50's-60's these days won't leave any inheritance They will spend it on themselves!
