    Default 157,893 Holdens Missing

Well some of you may know I've been plugging away at the Holden production numbers and special milestone cars for over 18 months.

    I can confirm the 250,000 - 500,000 - 1,000,000 - 2,000,000 - 3,000,000 and 4,000,000 th cars. all the production numbers add up to the month.

BUT when I do the VN 5,000,000th production calculation, I'm 157,893 cars short. All the models are VH, TF, JB, TG, JD, VK, RB, VL, JE, VN & VQ - The VG (5,690) was released in Sep 90 so I left it out.

I've gone over the numbers many times but....

The 5 millionth Holden was built on the 29th August 1990. So you cant include all the VN's (141,574) and the VQ (9,396) ran from Mar 90 to Mar 94 so only a small number are included (1,176).

    I've hit the wall

The lexen's were produced by Holden and have the serial numbers mixed in with the VN's.

The cars produced by Holden are the only ones that count so the little buzz boxes call Barina's dont count.

Just a thought. Could Holden have jumped numbers in their productions? I know some manufacturers miss some in a series change.

What about the Piazza? I know it's not completely local but if it came knocked down and was put together here then it could also be somethin'

Like the VZ wagons being produced at the same time as the VE

The VZ's started 312,000 ish and stopped around the 570,000's and started again at 810,000.

The VE's start at around 850,000 and have passed 900,000.

BUT I'm adding all the local production from Holdens publihsed pruduction numbers. Hoping to link serial numbers to production date eg the 5 mil VN built on the 28th Aug 90 s/n 4##,###.

I'm not sure about the shuttle, wikipedia says they're rebadged Isuzu's but it's always a possibility.. wikipedia also has a nifty small list of cars you might/might not have considered:

    Apollo • Belmont • Brougham • Calibra • Camira • Cruze • Drover • EH • Frontera • Gemini • Jackaroo • Kingswood • Monaro • Nova • Piazza • Premier • Sandman • Scurry • Shuttle • Special • Standard • Suburban • Sunbird • Torana • Zafira

There is a gap of low s/n in Feb 86 with the VL's going from 985340 to 203005 in the same month. Could have set aside 200,000 vin numbers.

GreenVN I'm fascinated by the work you do and appreciate it, just as I bet a lot of people here do..

Is it possible to get in touch with Holdens regarding this? They might be able to help out (though I doubt it )

I have emailed several people but no jackpot yet - also open ended questions are too hard for them. But I will keep at them Now that I have found this 157,000 car accounting hole

The answer is to be found.
