I hope this doesn't get closed but i would like to have peoples opinions on the matter of David Hicks.
I for one am sick and tired of the bleeding hearts crying out for him to be returned to Australia.
Why? This guy willingly returned to terriost camps in afghanistan and pakistan after the horrific events that took place in the united states on september 11.
It amazes me how quickly people forget this fact, do people honestly think he is being hard done by?
The Americans have certainly made a mess of things when it comes to the charges and trial against him but if he didn't put himself in this position he would have nothing to worry about would he?
What do other people think, these are just my opinions and would be interested in others.
I couldn't care less if he spent the rest of his life rotting away in Guantanamo Bay![]()
One word,TERRORIST.
If his name was Mahummad Cameljockey would there be a public outcry? I apologise if this name reference offends anyone, you get my meaning though.
there was only one reason he was training there and that was so he could cause his own sept 11 here so me i think he needs to face a firing squad, the same could be said for all those other ragheads in Guantanomo bay and any were around the world were the think they can pull this terrorism crap
if he had have been shot and killed as he should have been when that photo of him was taken of him firing an RPG, there wouldn't be a problem, if he was killed in battle then bad luck. he would be forgotten already.
its just a pity that he hasn't been forgotten in his current situation.
Let him rot
he was photographed fighting for the taliban, keep him where he is, in his cell.
my legal studies teacher is always on about David Hicks... "david hicks, now he's in a desparate situation, he was just a young boy looking for adventure and a religion"
good thread Juzsvy.
Hold on a sec... Me being the one who sticks up for the underdog in most of the threads like this here's my 2cents worth.
Held 5 years with NO charges. He has not been charged with anything in FIVE years.
Every other country who had someone in that place got them out of there a year or two ago at the LATEST.
Whatever happened to presumed innocent untill proven guilty?? Yet another example of how governments are using fear as a POLITICAL TOOL.
The follwing is a DRAMATISATION!!!!:
Government: "he's a terrorist!"
Public: "A terrorist?? Stuff his rights, stuff our rights, do whatever you want to do!"
All we really know is, once again, what we're told in media coverage etc etc.
I'm not saying he should or shouldnt be brought back here, all I'm saying that it's easy to forget things like what i've said above.
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

VT Calais II... The Italian Stallion
Isn't it quite interesting, ever since the jerk got busted, he calls himself David Hicks instead of his name over there which was like every other Moslum name.
Bring him back here and there will end up being a welcome home parade in the city for him. A dude busted and accused of such thing has supporters carrying on? Nah, when the USA sentence him to a life sentence, they can take the 5 years already served off his life sentence.
Weather he is a "terrorist" or not democracy is supposed to guarantee him a fair and speedy trial. Instead the US keeps him (and others) in gitmo so they can circumvent their own laws! The only reason the people at gitmo are still there are so the US govt can suitably rig their kangaroo court to find everyone guilty. If all the cases at gitmo were clearcut they would of all been tried long ago in the civilian system of justice.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
Yes Mike, it is easy to forget some of those things.
You must remember however that he did in fact return to these camps after sept. 11 so you must ask why.
I'm sure he wasn't there on vacation.
I do agree the Americans have made a desperate stuff up of things but i certainly don't think he should be brought home.
I'm embarrased that he's from Adelaide
Looking for VR/VS S1 Calais Door mouldings in good cond. PM ME IF YOU HAVE SOME PLZ!
why doesnt he get put before a united nations court so he might get a fair trial... i picture can mean a million different things...
the public have only seen what the media wants them to see and hear..
and ask yourself exactly why are these prisinors captured by america are held in a prison in cuba.... a country in which america does not hold dimlomatic relations
and why does the most powerful man in the world need to invade third world contries under force just like any other terrorist does
its my two cents take it or leave it theres just so much information the majority of the world does not here because of the goverment and medias censorship

Yeah and I wonder why they never show the full photo instead of just the cropped version. If you know the story behind the photo, you'll also know that the RPG wasn't even real. There are also several other people in the photo brandishing semi automatics. (Also not real.) Photo wasn't even taken in Afghanistan.
Yeah he probably is a terrorist and should be convicted. But there is also a chance he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's why democratic nations have trial by jury. To determine whether guilty or not. Remember, innocent until proven guilty.
I can't see how they can label all those they're holding down there as terrorists. The U.S invaded Afghanistan and some chose to fight back against the invading force. I'd say most are nothing more than POW's, and since the war has ended they should be released.
People are saying he's a terrorist, where's the evidence for that? He never engaged in any act of terrorism as far as I know. There is however a lot of evidence in the public domain that he acted as a mercenary. (Or as the US military likes to call their mercenaries "Civilian Contractors") Afghanistan wasn't the first place he did this, he fought in Kosovo against the serbians, but that's ok right, because everyone knows the serbians are the bad guys.
Like a couple of others have mentioned, if what he did was so terribly illegal why have they held him for a full five years without bringing him to a LEGAL trial? While what he did may be absolutely morally abhorrent, fact is they'll be struggling to prove he was breaking any law he was subject to at the time he was captured. I'm not saying the US should just cut him loose, I'm saying they need to look at whether their own behaviour in this matter is in any way morally superior to that of Hicks himself.
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.
