I heard this on the radio this morning and I am totally annoyed now... not because there is anything wrong with that; accidents will happen after all.
BUT
I can see that there are going to be "calls for the raceway to be closed" in the very near future by all those do gooders who drive barinas 10k's under the speed limit and think it serves no purpose but to make noise and hurt people.![]()

the article doesn't mention it but it was actually part of the "V8 Supercar Experience" so the driver was just some guy off the street, not a budding pro driver or anything, which makes the problem 10 times worse as the naive public will see him as one of their own, a poor innocent victim who should have been wrapped in cotton wool by Queensland Raceway staff.
I suspect this will see the end of the V8 Supercar Experience...

yea i saw that on the news last night, i was quite surprised to hear the phrase "professional driver and victim involved in highspeed accident," first thought that popped into my head was...what the hell was a pro racer and joe blow doing on the same course.
am i reading that wrong? the driver (joe blow) is 25, and the passenger (instructor) is 20???

The problem is their insurance would suck!! hahaha
Good to hear they're both okay, cars may get speed limited? I haven't read the article but pretty much the guy didn't brake or turn?
Edit: Good to hear they're both okay??? I thought they were doing fine, seems as though its more serious then what I originally heard.
yeah serious head and chest injuries to the instructor apparently... the driver isn't much better.

damn, hopefully this doesnt stop the V8 Experience. I will say now at calder, its $200 VERY well spent.
On a side not, there is a story on Channel 9 in vic tonight regarding calders street meets and burnout nights. Will be interesting to see how they think this is what is causing the problems on the roads.

not as problem for me as such, just that the media will spin up something for it, probably along the lines of 'reckless P plater instruction frinds blah blah' you know the spill!![]()
I was going to look into the Sa ones, but was told they aren't very often, and more around the 500 mark (i think thats a whole day, not 2 hours or whatever it is)

I doubt there will be calls for the racetrack to be closed because of it, there has been a motorcyclist killed there before remember, not to mention many other accidents.
I just hope they are both ok.
I cant belive that they have such serious injurys the cars a very similar to a v8 supercar (not the same as many think) and they dont really go all that fast in comparison and i am sure we have all seen some of the racing accidents and they dont get such serious injurys my question is what where they doing to cause the accident ie what speeds etc it would be interesting to seee the video.
I recently watched the video of my cousin and uncle doing the same thing and both of them said you dont go that fast MAX 200k down the straight and the instructor tells you what to do when to brake when to turn in so what the hell was the instructor doing?
It's not hard to imagine getting seriously injured even with protective harnesses and equipment... Think about it, your internal organs are travelling in your body at say 70km/hr and suddenly they stop and slam against the inside of your ribcage, your brain slams against the inside of your skull and causes swelling... this is why some people die in accidents that otherwise look uninjured, especially in head-on accidents.
yer a mate had a head on with a 4x4, a chick in my class was a volenteer with the ses in perth and she got called out to it, she said he was fine looking no major cuts or anything, but got revived 11 times on the way to hospital sum 8kms away. died from internals being ****ed up
yeah i recently had a racfe day out there like 2 weeks ago & yeah u only get up to like 200kph but still heaps of fun yeah would be good to c the video
Ford Escort me to a Holden dealer.
GO drive on australia
you guys say "only 200kph" but at 200kph a wall is a wall... it will stop you mighty quickly no matter what.
And really its totally in the hands of the driver... if the driver doesn't brake or turn then whatever the instructor says or does means nothing... they are going to hit the wall and come to a VERY sudden stop!
