I have IQ. It is better then normal foxtel because yeh.. you can record what ever you want tho i am not sure about your question to do with the dvd recorder. The bad thing about foxtel is that there is like 100 channel's and half of the time there is nothing on or if there is it's a repeat

I have Foxtel, but not IQ. Yes you can record onto your DVD recorder. What I do though is run it into my PC through a TV card and record onto my hard drive. This is then routed through the house and can be watched on any TV. I burn movies onto DVD to keep....shhhh. It runs through the main amp in the loungeroom first though, then to the other rooms. With IQ you can watch 1 channel and record another. I'm thinking of getting an additional STB, the IQ, so I can watch 2 channels at once. I'm sick of missing the basketball because of Law and Order reruns....

after many attempts, ive worked out you cant record box office movies onto DVD (unless you do it shifty style like N.A.A.F.)

IQ is alot better, the pause/rewind/record function is awesome

yep. everything else works. when you try to do a box office movie it goes for 10 minutes and then stops and says its copyright protected

it does have alot of reliability issues tho.such as the record function not working on some days, the tv guide shows no listing-so u cant use ur planner, ive had to switch it off from the power point many a time to get the iq back online, other wise it is awesome to have over normal foxy.does anyone kno if theres a time limit to how long a recorded program stays on ur st-box? i think linking up to a pc to re-record ur fav programs is much better than linking up to a dvd recorder as the xtended periods of time downloading then reburning to dvd wuld be beta suited to the pc?

r u serious. thatd suck. ive got mine hooked up to a dvd recorder and it works. but ive got austar. dunno if that makes a difference.

seeing as austar is basically foxtel, would austar be able to get the IQ thing as well?

    Try a VCR. It works.

You know the whole TiVo style pause/rewind/fast forward/record live TV thing can actually even be done with free to air TV using a PC and TV tuner card(s). I have a "media centre" PC which sits next to the TV and I control it with a remote. If I didnt know better I would see it and not think it was even a PC... you can have instant power on/off and it wont even look like a PC. Worth a look for those of us too poor (read: too tight) to get foxtel IQ.

Well after having foxtel IQ for nearly a month Im wrapped!!
Its awsome and easy to use.
Recording 2 shows at once and watching a 3rd recorded show is great!
The way i watch tv has totally changed!
Fav shows are Overhaulin, Rides, American Hot rod and Speed just to name a few!
Going back to free to air tv is a joke with so many ads!
yes foxtel has ads too but not that many!

    Whats your fav shows???

ive had foxtel digital since it was first released (platinum package - all channels), and after having foxtel for a few years now you will realize there is really no need to be able to record, i guess it could come in handy on the very odd occasion mainly for pausing i guess.

but they repeat stuff so much its unbelivable the same show will be on more than once a day on the same channel and air throughout the week then when it finnally fades out give it a month or two and your watching the same thing again.

when you first get foxtel it's very exciting. i remember when i got it 7yrs ago (got it for the olympics). I'm like wow! Simpsons are on 15x a day! this is great! now i can't even remember the last time i watched Simpsons on foxtel - now i just buy the DVDs and watch them when i want.

The movie channels suck ass - the movies on box office can be hired on DVD 3mths earlier for cheaper, and if you have a DVD burner, they can become your property. However this is illegal and i do not condone it at all. just don't look at my DVD collection. And the movies on showtime and movie1 are usually crap too, they're usually just movies that you may have missed on DVD.

what is good about foxtel is that it has replays of shows that aren't on TV anymore. Home Improvement, Futurama, Law and Order (std. law and order with Lenny and Jack McCoy and the hot lawyers, not that criminal intent crap).

But foxtel beats all other tv when it comes to one thing. SPORT. if you love sport, then you will love foxtel. there is no doubt that the jewel in foxtel's crown is FOXSPORTS 1/2/3. Live AFL, live NRL, live Super14 (not so good) live cricket WC, repeats of all tests and 1-day games, replays of the V8's, and 24hr FoxsportsNews channel, hosted by the very attractive but very stupid Lee Furlong.

This IQ thing intrigues me... you can record 2 things at once, and watch a 3rd? this is very cool. i have an DVD HDD recorder, so i can watch one / record another, but thats it. 3 shows at once would be very cool. i think i live too far out of the city to get it though (Narellan - South West Sydney)

iq does sound intriguing when you first hear about it but a lot of customers are plagued with problems. you can record 2 channels at once and watch a 3rd prerecorded channel, but like others have said, shows are repeated that often that its hardly worth recording them.

the big let down with iq is that there is no provisions to transfer shows that are recorded on the internal hard drive onto another external hard drive or other media. the only way is to hook it up to a dvd recorder and play each recorded show back whilst recording it on the dvd recorder. having no other way to get the stuff off the hard drive means that in 6 months or 12 months when the set top unit starts playing up you'll lose everything thats on there because the easiest thing for the foxtel tech to do when he gets there is just swap your stu for a new one

I got IQ last week via mail, and when I had to update the software. It said it can take up to 30 mins to update, 2 HOURS later it worked, just as we were on hold to Foxtel for 20 mins. Other than that, it's been great.

you must be on the cable network? there would have been a problem somewhere, even though it says 30 mins it never usually takes more then 3 or 4 mins on cable.

NBA, MotoGP and a few of the other live sports don't repeat. Pain in the arse when the MotoGP is on on a Sunday night and then the missus wants to watch Biggest Loser. I have to kick the kids out of the theatre room and watch it in there.

With an Austar or Select TV subscription, you can use a 'PVR-decoder' such as a Topfield PVR4000 or PVR5000. These two are satellite-only PVR's (DVB-S). Cheap second-hand on Ebay or new from Europe.

THIS link below is for a PVR that does noth satellite and terrestrial digital. (DVB-S/DVB-T). Retails for $799, but you can get 'at least' $100+ off that.

    Select TV: http://www.selectv.com/
Purchase a hazard-warning triangle for your car to improve the warning given to approaching traffic at both crash scenes and vehicle breakdowns. Keep it in the boot. I suggest Hella Part Number 2901 - $70, OR http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...215554#details. Accepted under AS3790. http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/media...eSafePart4.pdf
