Bought my vx 3 weeks ago, when I went to change break pads found that the key for the locknuts is not in the car.![]()
![]()
I called Holden and bob jane to ask for a solution. They both said I'd have to drop it in and pay for however long it takes (could be up to 4 hours for them to bash them off).
I dont want to put my car in for them to turn around and say it took 5 hour and charge me $600.![]()
Anyone had this problem?

most bob janes have a tonne of locknuts keys for this problem so ask if they can do that, if its a holden locknut you can bet theyll have the key for it ( i used to work there )
We got rep back, yaaay!
Cheers,
Yeah thats what I thought and I asked him but he said they would have to force it off.
Would locknuts come with the wheels or could they have come stock?

I got mine off at the local tyre place. They just got a socket a size bigger a smashed it on. No damage to the rim and only cost me $45.
I was about to try that but dont want to make it even harder to get the lock nut off.
I mite try the tyre places around me see if they will try find a key that comes close to fit, or a cheap solution
If im looking at bloody $200+ I think I'll attempt it myself.
Sucks cause I really gotta change my pads soon, got a bitta squeak.

A socket is the easiest way, you hammer it on 'firmly' so that it can be removed from the locknut afterwards. Shouldn't take four hours, less than 30 minutes it usually about it.
lol, holden locknuts can usually be removed with a socket if hit hard enough on.

Yeah, I was not going to pay for four hours labour.
Ill get a socket and give it a go then.
Cheers guys![]()

They are 17's
Got holden logo on them but not sure who put them on,
Didnt get any history with the car, its a '9C1 police pack' but dont know who's had it since

Find a socket the size larger and knock it on..... If your organised at removing lock nuts, you can buy a tool called "Lock Nut Off" which removes all lock nuts... look for it on google I belive the last set I bought cost $90 or something![]()
WAIT, try welding a bit of metal onto it and put a hollow piece of metal pipe to take it off.
if the locking nuts are from repco or something (go have a look at the styles they sell there) and yours is there the key will be there too just find the pack with your pattern. theres usually only about 10-15 different keys for a brand of locking nuts i think. theres only 10 different keys for official ford locking nuts. your gonna end up with 2 sets of locking nuts but hey cant hurt to keep spares or have 2 sets on if they are nice wheels.
Achin' for a v8 wagon people click me!
if your close to Rocklea come down to Beaurepairs and I will do it for free on the spot
or you can leave your car out on the street and put your car on some bricks I bet you your lock nuts will be gone and your wheels lol

if ur handy with a welder or know someone who is just tact weld a normal nut to the lock nut!
its tricky with alloy wheels, the alloy heats up quicker then the steel on the lock nut so you can easily damage the wheels.

hacksaw them off just next to the diff? that should work!! DOH!!!
wtf?
bob jane rattle gunned mine off, for free, and replaced all my lock nuts with normal nuts, for free, 5 minutes.
you're being conned. being conned so badly, it's laughable at the stupidity.
even my dodgy mechanic rattled them off in 5 minutes, dude....
y would u get the tyre fitter 2 replace ur lock nuts with normal nuts? kinda defeats the purpose?
As 4 wilkesy go 2 holden ask 2 have a look at the type of nut u need then go buy 1 at repco as it will b cheaper but ur best bet is 2 throw these away so bashin a socket on isnt a bad idea n get some other type of lock nuts (not from holden) get a couple sets, would b a lil harder 4 ppl 2 steal that way tho not 100% theft proof lol

yeah guys...i remember doing a rotation on my old Ford Probe GT that had lock nuts. Hammered on a socket and then just eased it off with ratchet. They really aren't that useful. With four locknuts on the car I had the rotate done in less then half an hour.
Cheers guys,
Should be able to do it with one of these solutions,
Dont have a welder myself but if it comes to that my mates a boiler maker.
Bit iffy bout welding that close to my rims though as MAniac said.
There was noway I was paying for the labor to get 'em off thats why I asked here for peoples suggestion on the easiest way.

geez if you can use a socket to remove it so much for the porpose of lock-nuts, when they can be removed without the key.
You could even try 2 flat end screwdrivers inside lock nut, and then using a 12inch shifter undo the lock nut with the shifter as close as possible to locknut. I've used this method before, it works!!
