dont know about everyone else, but i think this is a F****G stupid question.
how can you know if this glass is half full or half empty if you didnt see the liquid get poured into it? for instance, if you pour liquid into a glass to halfway, then the glass is half full. if you fill it over half then drink some so its half, then its half empty. i really dont get how people can blindly just assume a glass is half full or empty, (too assume makes an ASS out of U and ME) and i really dont get how it has anything to do with being optimistic or pessimistic... anyone?
the glass is twice the size it needs to be

no, he took the engineers point of view :P
The thing is if you are drinking the liquid you can still say it's half full OR half empty so your logic isnt concrete.
It's just how you decide to take it
maybe instead of it being "half empty" or "half full" maybe its just half a cupsimple..... none of the full/empty bs
....
my point of view, SMASH THE F****N STUPID GLASS [=
Instead of drinking half way, drink all untill emty. Then say emty glass. Pretty simple really. Why drink half when you can drink all.
Saves the confusion on some people who can't think!! Especially after drinking beer.
maybe it tastes bad. or is non-alcoholic
then just take a sip instead of gulping till half full/Half emty which ever.
Guys it depends on perspective... its half empty of someone has removed 1/2 the licquid and it would be half full if its only been filled half way.
cheers

Who gives a rats arse, its just a figure of speech. I cant believe u made a thread about this, and furthermore that I posted in it....
for the sake of completeness, i will explain to you why you should not question the legitimacy of the question because your perspective is wrong.
The expression refers to the state of the GLASS, subsequently it does not matter when the liquid was poured, or if its partly been consumed. Any vessel exactly half filled to its capacity can be described as EITHER half full or half empty and still be correct. Similarly a full glass that has been half consumed can also be described as either half full or half empty and also be correct.
Because Half empty/full mean the same thing, how you chose to describe the glass is "supposed" to indicate your status as an optimist or pessimist but i doubt its accuracy as an indicator. Half full having the more positive connotation naturally. I cant remember whose sig it is, but its something like half full half empty who cares just drink it...

Quite possibly the dumbest thread ever....
Carry on![]()
you could always inspect it to see wether the water is clear or there is marks on the top rim to see whether its been drunk out of, because clearly the glass will be half empty if it was filled to the top and drank but it would be half full if it was poured to the half mark
lol. I agree and yet i cant stop posting in it...
Evilmonkey, you are missing the point! the question is not wether the glass was half filled or half emptied, but wether or not it is half full or half empty. As such, it is of NO CONSEQUENCE how it got like that. Think about it.
yes but there might be giveaway signs of how it got to be that way as it cannot of always existed you have to take into consideration of how it got that way to come to the conclusion of its status
just to throw this really off topic......
which came first?
Chicken or the Egg.....
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hahaha
aZk...
Yes but that implies a context which is not a part of the half full half empty question. The question relates to how a person would describe a glass that is presented to them that is filled to 50% of its capacity. To import a context defeats the purpose and is irrelevant! it does not matter how it got that way.
Yeah, that contectual stuff Joe said was what i was about to right...
Will i think:
A) Damn he beat me to writting it
or
B) Yay! i don't have to strain my fingers...
lol!
If you had 2 half filled glasses of beer would u think...
A) Woo! I got a glass of beer!
or
B) Damn, half the beer is gone...
well another question is would you drink it ? i mean even if i saw a full glass of any drink and i didnt know who poured it i wouldent drink it
Id say whos shout on next rounds???keep the glass full and u have no problems hhaha

if the glass had alco in it, who cares if its half full or half empty! the point is that it has some left in it! drink up fellas!!
