Default WTF, lost my job before i even started!

Hey, just wondering if anyone had this happen to them,

i started work for a new job, a wrecking yard to be exact..
went thru alot of bull**** to get the job (a ****ing drug test)
and got all of my referee's called.. (before the drug test)

anyway they all said good things about me... so yeah cool i get a call saying "we need you to start as soon as possible"

so i said to her "ok well i MIGHT beable to come in friday morning, i have tafe commitments so i cant gaurntee it"

so she told me that i wasnt required to contact them before i went in, just to go in and if i couldnt make it in friday to go in saturday and/or sunday(it was training)

just so happens i had to go in friday morning before class to sort out some crap because i changed class and had to re-enroll in some subjects

so i went in saturday morning... worked from 8-12, then checked my email last night to discover a email from her on friday "you failed to show on friday, we can no longer continue your employment"

to me this whole experiance has been unprofessional and disrespectful... more the fact that they just left a pissy email that i didnt check for a few days so i didnt know till after i went in, a phonecall would of been nice... even a sms...

i replyed with im sorry for this miss understanding, explained what had happened

i got a responce back after replying to the email "we are a small buisness, we cant handel un-reliable people" and a load of crap hanging **** on me..

i dont care about the job, i didnt need it as i have a well paying job at a large petrol company headoffice,

i had explained to her, im still studying and working a fulltime job... the only reason i went for the job is because my friends old man owns it and needed more staff... and i enjoy cars so why not??

im just pissed off at that employer

ide be straight onto the blower to the boss, be nice at first, and just ask politely for an explaination as you feel you were hard done by, and no matter what his response is, say "sorry, not good enough"....and rip through him.

Any employer wants any potential employee to be commited 100%,this is magnified by the fact that it was a small buisness.
You showed you were un-reliable and in your own words''did'nt need the job''so you were going in with the wrong attitude anyway.
The boss obviously recognised you were going to be a liability risk and subsequently gave you the ass.
Sounds to me like you were wasting not only her time, but your own as well.

Wow man, thats really ****ed up. To make you go through that drug test and not understand that you have study commitments...what a ****ed up business. Your better then that and you know it, stick with the petrol company.

mate i was %100 commited, just because i didnt need the job didnt mean i didnt want it, like i said earlier i enjoy cars.. another reason i was worthing there was for a few reasons, 1. bit of side cash, cheap parts, i told her i was a student and wasnt sure if i could make it in that day...just because your a employer dosnt give u the right to treat someone like ****. and about the small buisness.. my ass, they have like 2 yards, a LPG installer + kit maker, a scrap metal yard... little more than a "small buisness"

What would you call a large buisness?.Most buisnesses are small in AUST the ones that are'nt are owned by big multi-nationals.
I'd say she wants someone more mature and more focused on the job at hand, not someone thats looking for a hobby.

But didnt they say you could make it in on Saturday or Sunday if you couldnt make it Friday? If they said this to you then you were very hard done by.

kinda got a bit of bad luck there ey mate. unfortunately the jobs you are usually best at are the ones you enjoy doing, sounds like they woulda missed out! just give the main boss a ring, or even see him in person if you get the chance. regardless of whether you wanna work there still or not.

Take it as a good thing, they offer the flexibility then revoke it, they are not worth working for

Not a first by a long shot. Companies do this now simply because you are a risk if you are on drugs or alcohol. Its easier to not accept you because of drugs etc no then have you have an accident that could have been prevented had you not been on drugs.

These days more and more employers are requesting a full medical test and drug test before they hire, more so in the blue collar sector. I guess employers are fed up of work cover claims from pre-existing conditions and people going to work high, or smoking dope in their breaks and possibly being a danger to themselves or other workers.

I agree with minux... just take it to mean they aren't worth working for. I had a previous employer stuff me around in a similar fashion so I told them where they could put their job.

Its never worth working for a company that doesn't understand you have personal needs as well. Employment is supposed to be a mutual relationship... not one sided. And the fact that they said one thing and then did another? Thats a pretty good indication I reckon... you're better off without them.

Why sacrifice your mental health? Stress has a huge impact on your quality of life... both at work and at home.

sounds to me like they set you up to be fired straight up, by saying you didn't need to contact them before coming in, but personally I would have called to make sure they understand your tafe commitment on the friday before class, and that you would be in on saturday. but like you said, you don't need the job, so don't stress about it, believe me it makes life...... unusual... when stress takes hold

based on that statement i'd say you were hard done by if that was what she said. maybe talk to the owner. if you don't care about it, drop. otherwise bug them for wasting oyur time with the drug test/medical

drug test the labour force and i can safely say 70% would be gone then hit the doctors im sure a few of them would be using drugs they shouldn't, then go hit the police force and the army.

anyway on topic, don't worry about the job, sounds to be they lost someone who would have been a valuable employee, their loss not yours
