Desalination in SA, your views
The Government in South Australia is considering building a desalination plant on the old Mobil refinery site in lonsdale what your view?
i reckon its a good idea as i live about 2k's from that place and at the moment its the biggest eyesore in Adelaide and lets face it, we need the water.

I think it is an excellent idea, i believe it would be built close enough to a nuke power site for the future, which again is great thinking on SA's behalf.

hahahahahaha, qld has the logo, qld the smart state, if only we were that smart, we have had to wait till level 5 restrictions before we get our disalination plant. and even then it's no-where near a power station. it's in the middle of the ocean, yay qld government, yet another thing well thought out

If I'm not mistaken, don't they have to find somwhere to dump the super saline output from the plant? Any location needs to have the surrounding area taken into consideration.

youd think that would make sense. maybe thats why the qld one is out at sea where itll be diluted faster (hopefully) with minimal effect on the environment.

as far as i know the enviroment surrounding the site has taken a toll ever since mobil moved in, and also they got the big tanks sitting there at the moment they could put the stuff in there until the can transport it to another area

I would love to see it built down south but I think it would make more sense if it was put up around Dry Creek with some of the out flow to the salt pans, allthough it would need some serious pumps to send the water back to the resivours. It could use some of the water pumped back into the aquafer around Two Wells/Virginia from Bolivar. Much easier and cheaper to treat and once the water has been through the treatment post resivour there shouldnt be a problem.
The old mobil plant is really a toxic waste land as they used to dump a lot of waste on site back in the old days. I dont think it will be used for anything but a fuel depot for at least the next 25 years.
