Default What's with all the accidents lately?

Is it just me or has everyone else been noticing a **** load of car accidents around the place lately as well?

Last week on my way to trade school I saw a P-plater chick run up the ass of a (I think) VZ Commodore just before the Calder-Tulla merge heading inbound.
Later that day on my way back home, after getting onto the Ring road and getting up to speed, I noticed that the car in front of me was suddenly stopping, no brake lights! I had to slam on the brakes to avoid running up his ass and decided I didn't want to drive behind him, so I pulled into the left lane, let one car jump ahead then moved back into the right lane. So there was one car in between me and the guy with no brake lights. Anyway not even 2 minutes down the road, as we were going through the little tunnel I hear a screech and crash, and see an Express van a few cars down jolt a bit. I immediately got into the left lane to avoid the hold up, and passing the accident I see that it was the guy without brake lights that had run up the ass of the van.
Turns out the traffic was banked up in the first place because of an accident a couple hundred metres down the road (just before the Pasco Vale Rd on ramp) that had blocked a lane.

The following day my sister-in-law wrote off her mum's Mazda 626. As she was going to change lanes she did her head check, looked back and traffic was stopped, she had no time to stop. Ran up the ass of a black Monaro.

Then tonight on my way to the gym I drove past an accident on the Western Hwy, heading towards Sunshine. Someone had hit a timber light pole in what looked like a green VN. It was dark and the car was VERY f***ed up! Anyway he must have hit it with some speed because he actually snapped the light pole at it's base, literally knocked it down. Would not be surprised if the driver died.
Then on my way home from the gym, approaching a round-a-bout in Cairnlea, this idiot coming through the round-a-bout in the opposite direction must have gone through it too quickly or something and lost control, sending his car over the centre road island and onto the wrong side of the road (the side I was on), taking out one of those small "Keep Left" signs on the way. If I had been a couple hundreds metres up the road at the time there is every chance we could have had a head-on crash.

Those have been the most significant one's lately, and all in the last week! But in addition to those are the little one's you see on the side of Freeway's and everything.

So what has happened lately? Has everyone become retarded behind the wheel or have I just simply been in the right place at the right time to see these accident happen?

Of course there are more and more accidents, as the general population gradually gets dumber accidents and the like will increase.

Some people just don't think when it comes to driving. They don't even realize that they driving a weapon weighing almost 2 tons of steel that can kill/ have fatal consequences. Like I said earlier people just don't think!

I got rear ended on monday just because some moron was in a hurry and took a stupid risk. This resulted in a young lady going into the back of my ute and writing off both of our cars and the prick just kept on driving knowing full well what he had done.We were unable to get a rego but Sunbury is a small place and i will find him.I was so happy to see an EMPTY baby seat in the back of her car.She had just finished work and was going to pick her kids up.Very lucky.

a lot of accidents in sydney this week as well.

on monday (my birthday of all days) it took me 3hrs to get to work, instead of the normal 1hr10mins. today the main road leading to the airport (i work near the airport) was shut down due to fatal accident, yesterday victoria road (one of the busiest in sydney) was shut down due to a fatal bus accident. its all happening, as Bill would say.

And yeah it comes down to people not thinking. Driving isn't that hard, but you just have to be paying attention the whole time, and not do anything stupid.

Speaking of stupid, can i put out a public announcment to everyone to put on their headlights when it is raining? Seriously, when rain is on your windows and mirrors its bloody hard to see as it is, but when a car comes up behind you and you genuinely can't see at all, it makes driving incredibly hard. it doesn't have to be after 7pm to use them. Use common sense people, turn on your lights!

I agree with the lights issue, i leave my lights on all the time.

Sumtimes it is very hard to see cars when it pissin down, especially dark cars, if they turned their lights on u can see em a mile away, instead of 30meters

Hear Hear on the premiums. I was quoted $365 for 3rd party on my VP five months ago, and today the quote was $413. I'm getting her insured when the quote comes through in the mail, though. I need to cover my arse in case someone else pulls a 'stupid'.

In peak hour, just keep that phat stopping distance, and keep an eye out on what the traffic's doing, not just the car ahead of you.

Seems to me that there are a LOT of accidents happening at the moment.

Leaving a good distance between you and the car in front is a good option, but it seems that every time there is more than a couple of metres gap there someone will squeeze into it. That really annoys me when someone does that!

quite a few deaths in our area lately. all silly mistake type things - not really because anyone was specifically doing the wrong thing.

I was just thinking that the other day bout the accidents.
I had one bout a month back when some dumb bitch rear ended me and tried to do a runner, my boss got side swiped by a truck my bros mate got hit up the arse (though that guy is an accident waiting to happen) and a woman i work with has recently been hit.
And this has all been happening just this month.
I,m on my P's and im sure the govenment will prob turn it around and ad my accident as a "P Plater statistic" although it was not my fault in any way shape or form.
Looks like 2007 shaping up to be a cracker

Does not surprise me at all.I use the ring road daily to commute to work and it
is an accident waiting to happen. The engineer who designed that road should be strung up by the balls. You see the road is 4 lanes from edgars rd but then changes to two lanes after the hume exit ramp than to 3 lanes to pascoe vale rd and then back to 2 lanes to sunshine.Where did this engineer expect all these cars and trucks to go.The road also goes to a big incline past the pascoe vale bridge and most trucks struggle to climb it further slowing down the rest of the traffic. The planners also did not factor in the population explosion in the north with all the new estates being built.I give the ring road
2 years at the most before it becomes grid locked.

i personally have almost had people smash into me on the ring road, and well everywhere really.... a couple weeks ago i was going down the main road of sunshine (where the two plaza's are) and i was in the right lane and a camry didnt even indicate and came into my lane then slams on his brakes just so he could turn into autobahn, and i stopped about a metre from there ass end.... never good when you almost smash into someone because its there fault and you will be held responsable because of there **** up...... o well, i guess alot of people wouldnt have them "wreckers specials" if people didnt smash there cars

As mentioned above, this will not turn into another P plater bash/debate.

They have as much right to be on the road as any of us.
