I saw on the news last night that the council (not sure which one) but they are charging the anzacs marchers $10,000 to do their yearly march, the reason for the charge is because the council say it will cost that much to divert the traffic and put up signs for 10min.
i don't know what to say but fell extremly angered by this, it is plain disrespect and arr...words just can't explain it.
i'll find the report and paste it up.

Last post for Anzac march
By Luis Feliu
War veterans from Woodburn-Evans Head are up in arms over plans by Richmond Valley Council to slug them with a $10,000 bill to divert traffic off the Pacific Highway for their Anzac Day parade.
The veterans say they will not march this year as a result.
Woodburn-Evans Head RSL Sub-branch president Darryl Pobje said veterans were disgusted at the plan, the first time Council had asked for payment in the sub-branch’s history.
Mr Pobje said veterans from the small sub-branch of around 170 members had traditionally used the highway (the town’s main street) for their marches since World War I.
“Why should we look at alternative routes when we’ve been doing this since World War One?” he said.
Richmond Valley mayor Charlie Cox said an assessment on the impacts of diverting traffic through the town’s back streets would cost council $10,000 in wear and tear, signage and traffic controllers and the RSL would have to foot the bill.
Cr Cox said council had initially approached the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) which offered to shut down traffic on the highway for 10 minutes.
He said Council was very respectful of the Anzac Day march and the best option would be for the RSL to agree to the RTA’s 10-minute stoppage plan.
The march route begins at the post office and finishes at Riverbank Park for a service at the war memorial – around 300 metres away.

I march every year, the thing is nowadays people have no respect for what these soldiers did this country. Even in schools there is more emphasis on chinese new year then anzac day. Our heritage is being lost. This is just another step in the chain. It is disgraceful.

I think these people are on dope!!! Have to be, I mean no one can make such stupid decision like that. What were they thinking!!!!
More like Mr Cox Head. What the f**k are these people on. Anyone who puts their life on the line for this country deserves respect. Both my parents served in the forces and I respect them for that (Mum used to be able to strip clean and build an SLR). The march is to show respect to the people who have served for this country. How is billing them showing respect.
Have these people head the saying "Lest we forget"
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?

i cant believe that the any body could disrespect our anzacs like that i remember when i was a kid marching in the parade for my grandfather who had died earlier that year wearing his medals it was the proudest moment in my life and now the council wants to make them pay in the words of darren hinch SHAME SHAME SHAME
Totally disgraceful, surely this council can sacrifice $10,000 of it's budget to cover this or would this mean they can't have fancy biscuits with their morning tea for a few week ?

People who made this decision does not give a sh!t about their suffering and bravery to fight for this country. In fact they are low life scums who sit in the office all day having a cuppa. All the they care is money. Everything have to be about money.
I think Mr Cox is playing with his. If he doesnt agree with the importance of Anzac Day maybe he should be working on that day, not charging the R.S.L. holiday pay rates to divert the traffic.
Mr Cox you are an unaustralian, ungrateful, pennypinching asshole.
LMAO Can't have said it better myself!

What a load of crap if it wasnt for these men we might not even be here today does he think of that NO it is all about money like said before. were the ones who pay for the rd anyways. someone needs a bullett in his head, and ill put my hand up. its ppl like this that do not deserve too even be here.
Always In Construction Mode!!!!!![]()
The council there was asked what would happen if the highway was blocked because of an accident or broken down semi...they said they would easily be able to divert traffic around the town, but for the diggers , the pricks want money.
Hands up those who would like to park a broken down truck across the highway on the morning of April 25th for an hour or so...![]()

what a disgrace, fu(king councils, these people fought and dies for us, including the council faggots and now their charging for the anzac march. hope tor organizers get hurt in an unfortunate car accident or something.
proof Australia is losing its spirit and unfortunately becoming more multicultral
exactly, like the lebos in Sydney last year who had a total disrespect for the anzacs, go home u fu(kwits, and take all your friends and family with you.the thing is nowadays people have no respect for what these soldiers did this country. Even in schools there is more emphasis on chinese new year then anzac day. Our heritage is being lost. This is just another step in the chain. It is disgraceful.
im not really a racist person but if it keeps going the way it is going, then fu.ck everyone who comes over. to hell with multiculturalism
That is absolutley unAustralian, I bet the fat toads that sit behind there desks and make these stupid decions will have no problems in upping their salaries another $10,000 each next year. I cant beleive that it wasnt laughed at. Its bad enough that one person has come up with this idea, what makes it even worse is that ideas like these need to be seconded and so on. Makes me sick the kind of ppl we have running this country these days.
Money Hungry B**t**ds!!!!![]()

"Lest We Forget"
Forgive me lord for i have sinned, I hit 4th gear jump5th gear pinned:b:
Seriously what school is this? Every year at school we gave our minute of silence for remembrance day, bit hard to do something at school for ANZAC day when it's a public holiday. Never remembered anything about CNY unless one of the Chinese/Vietnamese kids brought it up.
But back on topic, this Council is in their first year, and I doubt they'll survive after the next council elections unless they really do something big or reverse this decision.

THE flag may change one day, BUT it'll be up to US to do it, not for the likes of AUSFLAG, membered by one Harold Scruby (See also Pedestrian Council at www.walk.com.au ).
Only one state effectively voted for a republic, and thats Victoria, hence the reference to them as "The Peoples Republic of Victoria". That title goes well with its revenue raising doctrine aganst the motorist, done yearly by its AG's department.
Purchase a hazard-warning triangle for your car to improve the warning given to approaching traffic at both crash scenes and vehicle breakdowns. Keep it in the boot. I suggest Hella Part Number 2901 - $70, OR http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...215554#details. Accepted under AS3790. http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/media...eSafePart4.pdf
Gotta disagree with that one. Around here at least ANZAC day is sacred and you will find people of all ages at the march and later at the RSL club. Over the last 10 years or so ANZAC day has had a resurgence compared to the 80's and early 90's. I hope the trend continues.

I DON'T MIND AND THEY DON'T MATTER!!
I hope the trend continues for the right reasons.. I'm 25 and I have to tell you that sadly most of my friends count on ANZAC day as a big piss up, a day off work.... Like most Aussies..... Oh and I'm not having a go at Aussies.. I'm 100% Aussie born, I just know the importance of our heroes day!... and respect them!!!![]()
