Like many of you we go through a fair stack of aluminium cans. Does anyone know of anywhere in Vic or and particular company that pays people money for recycled al-cans? Would love to score some extra cash even if its just a bit.
Also the same story for our expensive copper piping. Seems that when the plumbers re-plumbed our house they were nice enough to leave all the old copper pipes under the house which serve no purpose other than potentially making me some money.
Any ideas?
i know i did this as a kid if i can tell ya right now if ya just got aluminium cans i wouldnt even bother i remember i got about a 6 x 4 x 4 trailer full and i didnt even get $30 lol but on the other hand if u have other heavier stuff,
go for it, its priced on weight!
me and my bro also use to stuff rocks in the cans to weight em down . . lol
you would be lucky to get 1 cent per can i would reckon, could be more cos thats how all the bums get money for their booze and their always drinkin!!
...well if its priced on weight then... maybe they cash in the trollies they push around with the cans???
Move to SA lol
Seriously, i used to work at one of the recycling places, and if we suspected the cans came from Vic, we weren't allowed to give you anything.
Didn't stop people trying, and depending on the day (if the owner was in or not) you'd probably get away with it.
Although going in there with a trailer load and Vic plates might give you away (i had a blonde woman try this on me)

As for copper you can get absolutely heaps for lol, although it depends on the condition of the copper, they have different ratings, but none the less you will get a fair bit for it

i know in qld it's not much for alaminium cans. something like 60-80 per tone of cans, but copper is 5.19 a killo for scrap copper. i took in a few hundred killo's of copper the other week, walked out with 4 grand, ofcourse my old man got all the money as it was for him, but yeah, copper is the go.
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
south australia is the place to go i took 900 cans,300+ stubbies and got a bit over $80....
that was about a years worth!
Aluminium ain't worth much... but copper is. Especially bare copper, which is what your copper piping is. Call around to some of your local metal scrap yards and ask what they pay for it, and also ask what their maximum pay out is without an ABN. The bigger places like Simms metals will only give you a maximum of $50 without an ABN, anything more than that and they will ask you for an ABN so you have to pay tax on it.
I think a good price these days for bare copper is up around $7/kilo... and a local place I use will pay out up to $300 without needing an ABN. Just call around though and you'll probably find someone that will pay out more than that. Your best chances will be with the smaller independent yards too, I wouldn't bother with the big ones.
And the copper prices explain why we are getting busted into every few weeks to see what we have out the back at work. They lucked out a couple of weeks ago and scored about 10k of parts.
Yeah I'm an apprentice sparky and the site I'm on working on at the moment has been broken into at least 4 times in the past couple of months. They didn't get much the first time around, just getting a few tools here and there and some scrap that was laying around. But the other times they came prepared and got their hands on a lot of the mains cables, even sat there stripping it before they left (all the sheathing was left behind).
yeah i know it says they have to be sold in SA but is there really any way of knowing? if next time im there i fill the boot with cans (i travel light anyway) and get a friend of SA origin (they would have the right accent and rego plates)to run them in, is there really any way the scrappies would know?

for copper the rate varies, like if its dirty copper you wont get as much as if its shiny.
