    Cool Comprehensive Insurance..how Much $$

Insured my VS Series II ute today and got two prices .. The first for market value and the second for agreed value. The ute has approx $4500 worth of extras (aftermarket) and the premium for the market value was $338.00 and the premium for the agreed value of $15,000 was $382, only an extra $50 .
Extras are.. UHF,CD Player as this model only had a cassette/radio, roobar and a sports bar in the rear. Plus a set of spottiesand a towbar. My ute is in exceptional condition and they were more than happy to go with the agreed value.
The insurance people I used was CGU. Does anyone else use this insurance company or are there better/cheaper ones out there.

your quote sounds like a really good deal

im 19, own a 2002 VXII V6, insured for $15,860, paying premium of $146.84 every month. it sux but im much happier knowing im fully covered and dont have to worry so much about stupid young uninsured dikheds hooning along a 60kmh road at 120 lol

..or an L plater who stole his parents car coz they were on holidays and ran into the back of a mates car he had literally bought about a month earlier. and the parents refused to pay coz they argued that it wasnt their fault, and the little **** had no money! lifes a b**ch hey

    WHAT! is that per year!?

im 20, VP Calais V6, only 1 point lost (stop sign) and only 1 prior accident. I pay $2200 per year full comp with Just Car. (It was around the same price before i had the accident too, so that had little to do with it. my excess is higher now though)

My mate is 20, perfect driving record, driving lancer sedan, 1.8L 4cyl. he pays $1900 per year.

Are you SURE you have Comprehensive insurance? Even my dad with 30yrs driving experience pays about $800 a year on his VS. If in fact you are, who are you with, and i will swap over TODAY

Your dad is getting ripped off, he should only be paying roughly $350 full comprehensive with rating 1....

the only way a young bloke can get full comp insurance under a grand is if they drive a piss weak car, or if they insure the car under a parents name, and list them as the primary driver.

this of course is in fact illegal - insurance fraud. generally insurance companies will overlook it the first time, but if you have 2 accidents in the car where you're not listed as the primary driver (eg if you have it insured under your dad's name, and your a 2nd driver) then the insurance company will do some investigating.

basically they will notice that you've had 2 accidents / claims in a car which you claim not to drive very often. if they notice that your parents have their own cars, and you appear to have this car all to yourself, then they will see it for what it is and reject your claim, and you pay the entire damage yourself, and you get in big trouble with the insurance company, who aren't big fans of fraud.

just remember - insurance companies don't get rich by paying out insurance claims. they get rich by investigating and rejecting claims

My first car was a gemmini my old man and me were half and half drivers on rego and on insurance. That way you are able to gain a rating.

not sure about half/half or how it was back then, but now with the common system either being principle driver and extra driver or primary and secondary, if the insurance company suspects that you are in fact the primary driver, not the 2nd driver as your policy suggests, they won't pay anything.

unfortunately that means a big insurance bill for P platers, and generally anyone under 25

my VR exec is insured for market value, premium is 450 p/a, 2 mods, cd player and exhaust (suspension doesn't count as it's only an inch lower than standard, CAI doesn't count as it's easily removed) - first year was 1200 with suncorp, switched to NRMA afterward. insured in mum's name

VT berlina is insured for agrred value (10,800) premium is 460 p/a. no mods AAMI. insured in my unlicensed gf's name with me as second driver

Cheapest insurance I could find for my VT 2 Calais, no points lost, no prior accients/claims was with 'Budget Direct'. First year it was $2300, this year its $1,600 and some change...

Seems like your gettin a really good price through, and I trust those bigger companies like CGU over things like budget direct.. which i only heard of last year haha

    But wait... There's more!!

    But that's not all!!!

maybe its where i live thats screwing me then. because i got quotes from AAMI, Just Cars, NRMA, GIO and they were all 1800 plus, even before i had my accident.

The only thing i can think is that living in Western Sydney killed me? i did a quote for 3rd party on AAMI website - a standard V6 with a perfect driving record, and it still came to more than what some of you guys are paying for comprehensive. And with my friends paying the same amount (and living in the same area i do roughly) then maybe that is it?

i know where you live has a say in how much the premium is, i wouldn't have thought it would double it though. maybe i should move to double bay...
