Yeah I agree, I'm sticking with XP Pro... i'd recommend waiting at least 6 months for Vista. Way too many teething problems which outweigh the benefits of the extra features. Also many of the display drivers, printer drivers, modem drivers, sound drivers, etc. are still in Beta stages and are very unstable. Its really not worth upgrading right now. Its like buying the first series of a new Commodore model.... you are better off buying series 2 where they have ironed out most of the problems.
bloody hell albert5268 you take the cake that's bloody crazy. I hope you at least work in IT?
Any chance you could do a how to when you do the car pc?
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?

Yeah sure... nah my bro used to own a computer shop but because we live in a country town there wasn't enough demand. We got most of the hardware at wholesale prices. We have a home office so thats why we have so many PC's. And everyone has a laptop each for work as we travel overseas for business all the time (im actually typing this from Phoenix, Arizona!!).
albert5268, Your car pc gonna have a geforce 8800GTX card in it!!!! That card is a powerful beast!!! Ya gonna be in your car all night playing games!!!
I recommend you should swap it to your desktop pc so that way you could use it more.

Yeah i will be upgrading my desktop video card soon as well but i want the awesome HDTV capabilities of the 8800GTX in my car!! i will be running several LCD screens off of it. electronics are so cheap over here!! retail works out cheaper than wholesale in australia even after tax and currency conversion
yeah intel is about the only company so far that has graphics drivers that work 99% of the time... ive still had minor problems with mine when hooked up to dual displays. and massive problems with USB drivers that Microsoft have told me will be fixed ASAP... which will probably be several weeks!! Which means i cant use my 3G usb modem until then...
LOL, don't laugh too hard now...... This was built November 99, and is still my daily driver, never misses a beat, (unless you touch the back or put your foot on it while its on and it crashes)

The only things i have replaced are, added more ram, upgraded the hdd's, and cd burner, and recently replaced the monitor cause its **** itself.

One day soon i hope to upgrade, just got better things to spend my money on at the moment.

Yeah I have and it performed dismally I'm afraid... I was quite disappointed! it could barely remain stable 200MHz above stock frequency... I think thats more the fault of the cpu itself and the RAM though.
Patrio7: My best video cards are in use I'm afraid. Most of the ones I have spare are around the GF2 era and earlier. Best one I've got is a 128MB Saphire 9100 which is just a rebadged and slightly higher clocked 8500 deluxe.

We have 9 PC's (3 laptops) + 1 chipped Xbox movie centre with a 250 HDD networked to my 2 gig Ansus pc. All are hand built by me with mostly left over bits from by brothers web hosting business. Every time he takes a server offline I get first dibs at it. A few of the MB's have raid stuff and all sorts of micky mouse stuff.
The main family room PC has all the games and movies on it with a TV out card and a sound blaster card.
None of them are anything special but with kids doing uni and all the projects the family gets upto they all get used a lot.
The CPU's range from 2.0 gig down to pentium III 800's
None worth stealing......

Lol.... you should be getting regular sex before marriage!!! lol...
mmmm... seems like a lot people here knows about their PC's and their hardware configurations. Interesting stuff here people!!!!
My dad thought that Intel and AMD are the same bloody thing in fact they are two very different companies that produces different chips/processors.
I was thinking of going SLI by adding the second graphics card of the same type but my mate said won't be much difference in performance in games that don't utilise SLI. Is this true??
After suffering a few months with a 800mhz amd duron i finally bit the bullet a splurged on a new system in december.
intel core 2 duo e6600
asus p5w dh deluxe with 975x +ich7r chipset
1 gig drr2 667 soon to upgrade to 2 gig ddr2 800
2x 250 sata 2 hdd in raid 0
640 mb 8800gts video
18x dvd burner
thermaltake soprano case and psu
19" widescreen 5 ms
logitech multi media keyboard and g7 mouse
logitech z 2300 speakers
running xp pro but will upgrade to vista in a few months once its been out a while and had some bugs and issues sorted.
Current project VH SL SEDAN 202
http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...-83-vh-sl.html
Last project VH SL WAGON L67

yes that is true... you are better off selling the card you've got and getting a single faster one than using SLI (in most cases). This may not hold true in future, but SLI support is limited at the moment and games that dont support it will run just as slow as if you had a single card.
By the way how are you guys finding the core 2 Duo chips?? I'm loving mine
They overclock better than everything since the celeron 300A... I have had my E6300 (1.86GHz stock @ 266MHz FSB) up to 2.73GHz (390MHz FSB) with stock voltages and the stock air cooling and running perfectly stable after 1 hour Doom 3 timedemos... to me thats an INCREDIBLE increase! Its faster than the Core 2 E6700's stock clock speed even... which makes it EXCELLENT value for money!
love this cpu!!!!!!
