What a joke! This guy admits to terrorists activities and gets only 9 months. What is worse is that he is going to serve his time here.As far as I'm concerned he denounced Australia when he left to fight with Bin laden's gang.He calls himself an Australian but he is a traitor who betrayed his country. He is most certainly not welcome here.
He committed treason against Australia, he should not be allowed back in this country. As far as im concerned we have the tree hugging hippies to thank for this outcome. What next allowing pedophiles to live beside schools...oh wait this already happens.
The guy is clearly a turkey and is probably lucky to be alive. This is the first I heard that he had been sentenced and nine months seems light to me. You also need to remember that it's 9 months plus the over 5 years he has already been in custody. I just hope the guys in dark suits keep an eye on him when he gets out.
Reaper
Bah, the guys probably a common mercenary. Everyone's making this massive fuss about how "ooooh he's a terrorist, traitor, blah blah blah", by your definition every mercenary who accepts cash to fight for a religiously motivated group is a terrorist and deserves to die. Admittedly they're obviously lacking in moral fibre, but the amount of hysteria directed at this case is just insane. No one got this pissed off when the serbs were using western mercenaries under that milosevic cretin. Wonder why that was, could it have been because the media chose not to tell you and hence you never even knew?
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

MEH! he got his trial, im happy about that. and his sentence? im sure 5 years in a **** hole would be about the same as 20 in aus prisons, o well it happens. he said he was guilty for whatever reason it is, whether he did or didnt do it we dont know... im going to check back on this thread and see how many post i can laugh my ass off at....
Clearly they had no evidence on the guy otherwise they would have charged him with a REAL offence, Instead they bribe him with freedom to plead guilty to some bull***t charge so they don't look like a right lot of wankers for keeping a person who poses no danger to anyone (apart from himself) incarcerated for 5 years.
We know Bush was full of ****e when he claimed Iraq had WMD's, we also know he was full of it when he said Iraq had links to Al quada. But everyone seems to be lapping up the bull***t when it comes to Hicks. Lest not limit this to Hicks though. There are another 2000 or so poor bastards locked up in that place with no future.
As far as I'm concerned we've only heard one very biased side of things from the governments and media. I just hope Hicks is given a chance to give his side of the story. And not in some half assed joke of a U.S military trial!
I hope that the authorities make his life hell once he is released. They should watch him like a hawk, he shouldn't be able to take a crap without some sort of law enforcement knowing about it. While he is in prison I hope he gets to be bubbas bitch, or even better if he offs himself.
i didnt spend time in the military myself protecting this country for people like him to be released, screw him, let him stay there
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
if he wore a shirt and tie and sent $100M to osama (like AWB) he'd still be a respected member of the business community. because he stood next to a tank he's a terrorist.
Hicks' actions were stupid to say the least but he's far from the worst person to target if you're concerned about terrorism. he's an easy scapegoat.
quite true, and wasnt he getting in trouble for a law that was made up after he was captured. traitor to australia? we was fighting with them before australia became enemies with the taliban. i wonder how hard t would be able to escape a regime like that if your preferences changed. bloody hard i would think
