Used to happen a bit with dodgy burns, too fast a speed or not good enough media.
Cheers

I had to get my SwapMagic DVD (allows me to play burnt PS2 games) done and it cost like $4, better than paying $60 to replace it.
if it is a legal copy take it to video ezy or any rental place like that, chop them out 5 bucks and they will clean it for you if the scratches arent too deep. if they are you may aswell buy it again cos it probably cant be fixed.
EDIT: Damm you KingDiamond!!

use methylated spirits to clean the disc. saved a few of my cds.
theres also a method using toothpaste
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
it sounds like itd make the cd worse because they basically sand the face down lol.. but honestly its worth it. i did it to my old halo game, it wouldnt even load, after getting it cleaned by video ezy it worked perfect.
all they do is sand off part of the layer of the cd, it only means if it gets heaps of scratches again it may not be fixable.
but its better than forking out money for a new game.. plus, if your a regular customer they do it for free sometimes.
Has anyone tried and tested the toothpaste theory??

never heard of the toothpaste theory. and if they arent deep scratches just take it to get cleaned by them. youll be amazed at how clean they come up. if you are in doubt just ask an experienced person at the video store about what happens to the cd when they put it in the machine.
idea behind toothpaste is that it can fill in the scratches and dry clear. metho does a similar thing

I'll vouch for the video store fix too, had it done on a couple of dvds they work perfect now
used to work for a harvey norman that had a cd re-surfacer
yes it scratches the disk but then it gets finer and finer till they get a felt pad with a polish solution
my xbox game ( Rallisport Challenge 2 ) was a mongrel to load till i re-surfaced it, works better now ( though my xbox never liked that particular game ) but i have seen it do a sweet job on a variety of CD's well worth it imho
or for a cheaper idea, i had someone use armor-all once, never tired it myself though..
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.

I had a copy of final fantasy VII for Ps1 that i wanted repaired... Took it to video ezy to get them to do it (6 bucks) they screwed it even more.
Anyway, alot of people swear by using Brasso and just buff it as u would a car. You can try that, if that doesnt work you prob wont have much luck mate, try getting a copy of ebay.
Good luck
I use cut n polish then poly diamond glaze polish using a soft cotton rag. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
Manda!!
