They have a different memcal, but it doesn't increase power at all.

I wouldn't be taking that article too seriously, what do the herald sun know about cop cars? hehehe, a while back there was a motor mag article where an NSW highway patrol XR6T ran at the drags, it was a fair bit SLOWER than standard because of all the extra weight and the extra drag from the light bar. Cop chip my arse.

Take the thread title with a grain of salt, was purely a joke since the LS1's dont even run a memcal or 'chip'.

Lol, yeah, can still be tuned though. So now that you don't have memcals with an ID sticker on them, just makes it harder to prove the to the retards that they don't get a special tune.

SMART car isn't a new term. These cars are in fact the fifth generation SMART car. The first ones were the VX SS that were those gold ones.

You're referring to the ICV (In Car Video) system? It's a brand new system that's just being rolled out after being trialled. It's not being introduced into every car I don't think as it does suck a bit of power, which is why these cars are fitted with the dual battery.

In case you didn't realise, we do have a few toys that need to be powered, such as laser, mobile data terminal, radio, mobile radar and some members (like me) have their own GPS unit they plug in. So with the ICV thrown in on top it was found that there wasn't enough power to go around, easily solved by a dual battery system.

Yeah I know its not a new term per say, but they are basically just the new name for the highway patrol cars.

Better performance doesn't necessarily mean a tune, it could just be different spring rates and damping ability of the shocks.

Bloody good point. Hadn't even considered they might be talking about handling performance.

Quite possible, but doubtful. The VE SS comes with the factory FE2, which is what they have always used as it qorks quite well.

I have an '04 VY. At work at the moment we have VZ Commodores. In my car when I put my foot down it reacts instantly and kicks up really well. In the work cars they just feel like they're lagging a bit, and groan along with squeaks and rattles. That's even the car I drove today that only had less than 15000 on the clock.

The TMU (traffic coppers) have the V8s in them which is the only thing that gives them extra grunt. Also the fact that their cars are looked after. Because they're pursuit cars they only go out onto the road if they're in top shape. Even if they're say over due for a service, they don't go anywhere.

We have a number of things that need to be looked at in between servicing. For example: at 20000 ks a brake check needs to be performed. That gets done at a local mechanic who looks after those things. Also minor things like headlights blowing etc.

Other than that, regular servicing gets done at the local Holden dealer/service centre. Any big mechanical problems (they occurr often) it goes to the dealer also.

they must have a crapload of weight in them, was a VESS cop car in Box Hill, which looked to have its sideskirts under 100mm clearance, looked ridiculously low!

My understanding is the police force only lease the vehicles hence routine servicing is prepaid. When i purchased my VZ from auctions it came with a whole heap of paper work and one of the memos talked about the prepaid servicing and work to be peformed at Authorised dealer, they also have a sticker in the engine bay saying the same thing.

Some states lease, others own and not all that lease have prepaid servicing.

WA gov cars are leased but servicing is paid direct to the repairer if and when it is carried out..

A few years ago I wrecked a 5.0 VP bt1, I wanted all the 5.0 gear for my VN that was at the time a 3.8.
The BT1 wreck had the same chip as any other 5.0, I cant remember exactly what the chip was but I do remember it was the same number as a standard 5.0 statesman chip that I compaired it with?.. I couldnt see any difference
