i live in the middle of a paddock so i don't have to worry about neighbours which means i have a lot of loud parties. I'm planning on getting a new sound system as I'm sick of ppl parking their cars on my lawn and cranking their stereos until they battery goes flat and having to jump them in the morning.
I was looking at some Yamaha speakers and amplifiers, or maybe the $1500 Sony Midi system. I want something really loud and clear with good range not one of those crappy generic HiFi systems or a home theatre system (7.1 etc). If anyone knows of a good brand of speakers to buy (like concert or PA speakers) or a place in Adelaide that specialises in them plz let me know.
thx in advance![]()
Why not just go a bose setup, especially if you want some of the best sound available. We have a lifestyle 18 series 3 setup, it is like nothing i've ever had before. Only cost us $3000 and you barely notice it is there, much better then my old separate component system. I suggest just going into various home audio places![]()

Yeah I'm not sure if i want to spend that much on it atm. I would prefer a system with tweeters, mids and woofers. Over here in the US i got an Onkyo 7.1 system with 1100 watts RMS (US$900) and omg its the best thing i've ever heard. Better than any car audio or home theatre system i have listened to, which includes my 'neighbours' $5000 BOSE system. Mind you it does have a lot to do with the acoustics of the room i have it in but its still amazazing. Plus it has a proper A/V receiver with full support for component video, HDTV, and satellite radio. If only i could get one cheaply in Australia!!
Yeah when i get back to Oz i will have a look around Adelaide but i really dont like taking advice from salesman who dont know the difference between Dolby Digital and DTS.
I looked around and auditioned many sound systems and narrowed them down to the Bose lifestyle or a Yamaha 7.1 system..
Listening to them both in a showroom 'room' and also in peoples homes I can say that Both are awsome systems.
For me I liked the Yamaha over the Bose, but i could have gone either way and been happy. I ended up with the Yamaha as I watch heaps Of movies and this is where I felt the Yamaha was its strongest..
Like the Bose the Yamaha's sub is down firing (facing the floor) so the bass is crisp without being over powering... If you have space go the yamaha, otherwise if your limited go a bose..
bose is **** you want a good set of qualital tower speakers to fill a paduck with sound like definnitive they cost a decent penny but are worth it i hav the mid range speakers wich 2 weigh 30kg and hav two 10 inch woofers in each speaker they also require a power point for each speaker each

Onkyo make awesome amps. I would buy components which is what I will be doing. Active subwoofers are the only way to go. Definately look around. The only way you will know what you want is to listen to lots of systems take a cd as an example to compare them all. What someone writes in a magazine is not the same as what you will hear listening to it.
Bose are good but I feel they're over priced. For those with more money than sense look at Bang and Olfsen or bowers and wilkinson

One of the best stereo's I ever heard was one were they guy worked as a sound tech for the opera house and hand built all the speak boxes and bought all the components that was friggin awesome.

Yeah have to agree there, i have a setup with 4 x 10inch subs, two big towers and and small satelite speakers, all mix of brands with a kenwood surround sound amp and a technics amp running the subs and my old man's "little" but not cheap bang and olfsen set up blows it away as far as sound quality goes. Mine puts out more SPL thanks to the subs but his setup is mind blowing in the fact he does not have a woofer bigger than 6", his bass clarity is superb and his speakers occupy about a fifth of the space as mine. The moral to the story is you get what you pay for! As far as bose being overpriced, the only way i can see someone drawing this conclusion is by spending alot of money on bose gear and not matching the power output of amps with that of the speakers, ie not running the correct impedence. Match this with a poor physical layout and a lack of setup with time correction paremeters etc (more applicable with surround set ups) and you will get a poor sound out of any set up
We have a JENSEN surround sound home theatre system at home. It shakes the windows throughout our house, and our house is huge. It consists of 6 speakers and one sub.
It cranks, awesome to watch movies on
But my parents paid quite alot of $$$ for it. Not sure how much though.
Some people say less talk more action, i say more torque less traction.
Yeah i loved the Onkyo system and it wasn't too pricey like the BOSE systems seem to be... but it seems to be you pay for what you get with sound systems... my old Sony, from back when CD's were the way of the future ned, still cranks better than any of the newer systems ive bought (logitech and altec lansing) and its rattled itself off of my shelves and landed on the floor that many times.
Looks like ill run around adelaide checking out some systems. was hoping to have it all schmick by the time i get back for a massive coming home party... should go off, god i love living in the middle of a paddock![]()
just go music store and asked where to get good speakers
not sure about ppl that work at music stores but dont really trust those people that pretend they know what they are talking bout to sell you something, especially electronics. Had situations before where i ask someone a question that i know the answer to and they give you the wrong answer and then contradict their answer by saying something completely the opposite.
yeah don't trust sales people! find someone who is the authorised repairer for a few of the good brands in your area and have a chat to them about what you want from your system and the good and bad points of each system. They will no what's what better then anyone and as they are not making money from you, you can be more confident with their verdict.
I used to be a salesman. I used to try to sell people what they needed not what the store wanted me to sell them. Customers were happy management weren't but not every salesman is like that

yeah that industry sucks... its hard to keep your integrity and remain competitive
Also they use all sorts of dirty tricks to make some sound better than others, good quality vs crap quality cables dodgy ports on sounds splitters etc etc.
In sales you usually have a dollar value you need to sell and if there is holidays or bonuses based on selling one brand you know what they're going to sell them.
