no smoking in car
Today it was announced the queensland government is looking at the posibility of banning smoking in your own car if you have a passanger ,in the passanger seat .My question is what happens if the passanger is the one smoking supposedly this bit has been overlooked by the powers that run the state.once again the politicains running around with there mouths in high gear while their brains are in nuetral.what your opinion on this?.
i personally think if you own the car they cant tell you what your going to do inside the confines of the 4 doors,it would be the same as if they tried to tell you ,you couldnt smoke cigarettes in your own home.If smoking is so bad and there going to stop you smoking everywhere, why not just make the sale of cigarettes illeagel. The answer to that one because the states would go broke because of lost revenue from the taxes on each packet, thats my 2 cents anyway

I think it should only be banned if you have children in the car... Otherwise if its your car, you should be able to do what you want...
This coming from a non-smoker.
The only thing is... When you smoke in the car, where do the butts go? out the window? So I suppose that would be one up side to it.. but yeah, I dont really agree with it

I fully agree with you about the no smoking with kids in the car,i dont when the kids are in the car,and with the buts thats what ashtrays were designed for.I cant stand when people throw them out the window as i have been a recipient of one that someone chucked out of their car on the highway and it ended up in my car, there is know need to be a dirty smoker as smoking is a dirty enough habbit as it is and i cant understand why people feel the need to leave their rubbish for others to clean up and quite possibly start a fire.

so on that theory, you could drink alcohol in the car like at home.
what is the exact reason theyre banning smoking in the car? is it like banning it in pubs and such, for public health? or another thing for road safety?
i think a passenger should not be smoking in your car unless you let them anyway, unless its say,a partner or family member.

Drinking is a little different though... Its affects on driving ability and such
Although smoking would mean that you have one had off the wheel for a period of time (maybe like 2 to 5 seconds at a time?? however long it takes to have a drag ) But then again... Who has both hands firmly planted on the wheel from the second the start it up to the second they get out.
As for people smoking in MY car, my ex smoked, and I NEVER let her in my car while she was smoking, and I could still smell the smoke in the car later on anyways... So I dont let anyone smoke in my car, but each to their own... Some people dont mind, so its their car, fair enough.
I've been in my friends cars before, and a few have actually asked me if it was ok with me if they could smoke.. in their own car they asked me!! If only we had more people like them in the world! But yeah... If its your car, you should be allowed to smoke (as long as there are no kids in the car).

im not sure whats been heard , but the idea they were talking about on the news was that it was being looked into making it illegal to smoke in a car with passengers under the age of 18.
the idea is purely a medical one, being that second hand smoke in a car, even with windows down is very concentrated and is more harmfull to people whose immune systems and body are still developing (thus the under 18 thing).
i think its all well and good, common sence would say that smoking in a car with kids is a no-no, i guess some people wouldnt care. but the the real problem i see, and the government admitted to this, is that it would be rediculously hard to inforce such a law.

Even worse when you've fought a fire and understand the sheer devistation that an uncontrolled fire can reap. Plus the writing is on the wall, we know how bad smoking is. However, there is no point oppressing people with stupid laws, we need drug dealers, underworld criminals and thugs off our streets, that is what coppers should be doing, not scanning freeway users to see if they've got a fag hanging out their mouth.. Not only is it just plain silly, but it will eventuate into a woeful misallocation of scarce resources..

No ciggarette but eva goes out my car window, and if one of my mates throw one i stop the car (except on the freeway for obviouse reasons) and tell em to get out and pick it up! It is a pet hate of mine! and i smoke! No form of litter should ever go out the window of your car people and ciggie butts are included! As for the new rules, if they do get inforced and i get a ticket i will roll the ****er up and smoke it in front of em. What a joke! Just another case of do-gooders going too far! Fair enough with kiddies in the car, but i don't have kids so that really won't apply to me.

Peter: Yeah there's no better place for a father and son to really get to know each other then a ball game.
Brian: Ah where is Stewie?
(Cut to Stewie sweating and stuck in the car in the parking lot with all the windows up)
Woman: Is that a baby in there?!
Man: Oh My God... He's gonna miss the ball game.

I don't smoke in my car at all so it wont worry me. My missus quit and since the car has never ever been smoked in why start now.
The only thing that goes out my window is apple cores cause the birds eat em anyway.
I remember them bringing this up last year but it was a joke. I can't beleive they are serious this time.
No smoking with kids in the car but on that note, on the way home the other day I saw this guy in my residential street doing 80 in a crappy corolla with two kids in the back barely big enough to see over the window sill. Shouldn't we be targeting this?

I don't give a S*** if people smoke in their own cars or houses.. but I do feel for their kids. Like already said, there is nothing worse than following a car when an arm appears out the window and the next thing you know your car is showered with smouldering material!
