    Talking Road Trippin'

No, I'm not talking about the new chili peppers song (even though its a beauty!!!!)

After my end of year uni exams this year I want to go on a road trip!!! I was supposed to last year but no one got around to organising anything so it didnt happen... This year I'm starting early!!

I havent baught it up with the people I want to go with yet, but I will when I have a rough Idea of where to go and everything. I'm thinking of taking myself (derr.) and two friends (3 people + stuff seems to be good)

    Ok, So I'm in Melbourne...

Where are a few places we could go!?

I was thinking like... Queensland maybe? I dunno... Something that will take a couple/few days on the road, and somewhere thats gonna be nice to stay for a week or two.

I really like places like Merimbula (just over the vic/nsw border [In nsw]) but thats only a 6-7 hour drive away... Not much of a road trip.

Anyway, any nice places/drives people can suggest? Or should I just stick to places that are within about 10 hours away?

(Lets just say I have 2 weeks to play with)

    But wait... There's more!!

    But that's not all!!!

    Thanks JD

    (From whereis.com)
    Melbourne to Surfers = 1,730km
ETA = 18 hours 45 minutes (not including stops)

Worth the trip guys?? I'll get all the places you guys suggest and I'll see how far/long.

This will be my first REAL road trip so all input much appreciated

    But wait... There's more!!

NSW central coast is good, places like coffs harbour.
Surfers is ok, depends on what you want to do.
For a young bloke like yourself who wants to let off a bit of steam it's probably perfect!

if you wanna party hard go to gold coast

i heard good fishing at hervey bay

otherwise you can go to noosa/sunshine coast to chillax with ok fishing and ok nightlife.
Once a Mercedes is up to cruising speed it lopes along easily and is happy sitting on 180+ km/h all day. Please check the speed limits in your area before attempting this…

Is your car up for it??? What I mean is get it service and other checks before you go so that way you don't have to worry about the car too much.

Like others said, surfers paradise is awesome plus there are heaps of chicks to look at!!!! I'll be heading up there at the end of the year to celebrate my mates B'day plus some fun.

I live in Queensland and I can tell you there is a reason why people buy on the beach. Surfers is very much a beach party town. Big on Tourism so lots is open. Byron bay is quieter but suprememe I loved it down there the water was crystal clear as well. I've never been to cairns but being a big backpacker town it goes off all year round. Arlie Beach is nice also just above Mackay lots of backpackers as well.

Well i used to live in Queensland umm good fishing spots i would say up and down Sunshine Coast is pretty good. Maroochydoore is a nice place (also has a bit of a car scene nowadays ive heard from old mates) Noosa is always a crowd favourite espically that time of year you get a heap of people. Hervey Bay which i think someone mentioned before is also really nice for a relaxed place, yet has good places to go and have a few beers. Great fishing if you have a boat, or can hire one out. All those places really arent that far from Brisbane. Hour or 2.

And well if youre mainly interested in the nightlife. Brisbane and the Gold Coast are the way to go there, espically around then for some schoolies action.

Going back to tassie, fishing? You wanna do fishing? Go to Beauty Point just out of Launceston, or if it's with in Trout Season, go up through the great lakes. Some of the biggest Trout on record have been caught up there.

    Heading down South...
The Salmon Ponds in New Norfolk is awesome. I've only been there once, but I wanna go again! Ummm....there's Hastings Caves. That place is wicked. The Huon Jet in Huonville is worth it too. Theres one also in New Norfolk, but apparently that isn't as good as the Huonville one.

If you decide to got to Tassie, tell me and I'll have a whole trips worth of stuff to do for ya! And directions.

Ahh brings back some memories. Spent most Christmas holidays at Bridport fishing. Also Mole Creek with the Tassie Devils, there are also some awesome caves around the but their name escapes me. What else? Liffy Falls, The Gorge in Launceston. And there are awesome driving roads especially down the east coast around St. Helens. Or if you aren't a pussy, Jacob's Ladder up Ben Lomand!

Hahaha, Jacob's Ladder is freaking awesome. And St Mary's Pass going towards St Helens can be a bit intimidating as well. Damn that road is narrow and so damn bendy!
