    Default Marcus Einfeld

"FORMER Federal Court judge Marcus Einfeld has been charged with perjury and perverting the course of justice by detectives investigating claims he lied to avoid a speeding fine........Detective Superintendent Colin Dyson said a 67-year-old Woollahra man had been charged with a total of 13 offences - namely three counts of perjury, six counts of perverting the course of justice, two of making a false instrument and a further two of using a false instrument...... Supt Dyson would not rule out further charges being laid or more arrests. The offence of perverting the course of justice carries a maximum penalty of 14 years jail, while the other three offences each have a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment. Justice Einfeld was bailed to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on April 19." (The Sunday Telegraph 29/3/2007)

If found guilty what punishment do you believe will be delivered? Do you believe the legal system will treat this matter without bias?

What a waste of tax payer's money. Should be saving the courts for real criminals charged with real crimes. Most people who contest fines in court are going to lie to get out of it on some kind of technicality.

If he wasn't a judge this wouldn't even be a story. Fine him for the speeding and make him pay court costs, then move on.

IMHO, the "system" should encourage truthfulness. By all means lie if you must, but expect much worse consequences if you get caught out.

It appears that this man has been arrogantly dishonest. If reports are true, he has committed a number of crimes, including dishonestly completing a statutory declaration. That is a real crime. If found guilty, he would be a real criminal and should have a holiday at public expence.

We already have some problems where judges think they are above the legislature. We don't need them to think that they are above the law as well.
