its hard getting them to do it again mate, i just had a private respray job done on the acclaim by a very reputable company in fact at the risk of my post beeing deleated they were a wing of a large holden dealership in perth
basically the bonnet had stone chips on it the front bar a couple of small scrapes and the doors had a few odd deep scratches this is what i had resprayed
front bumper
bonnet
LH & RH front quarter panel
all 4 doors
all dents taken out of the car
rear quarter panels blended
first pick up she came back scattered with imperfections and this was just a respray car was 100% straight
stone chips still visable all over the car on all panels that were sprayed
dent still in one door
orange peel on doors, rear quarter panels and front bumper
severe rippled affect on all 4 doors when you look on an angle down the side of the car
genuine holden tow bar missing/missplaced (why they took this off i have no idea)
car was badly detailed, full of swirl marks and they buffed the rear bumper to hard and burnt the paint so now its a matt finish in a reasonablly sized section
they took the car back to fix these "problems"
went to pick it up the second time, still most problems were visable just not as bad.
went to pick it up a 3rd time and after $3000 the bonnet and front quarter panels beeing very good/factory standard, front bumper beeing on the verge of acceptable/ok the rear quarter panels beeing acceptable/ok and all 4 doors looking still like crap, still swirl marks all over the body just not as bad, the rear bumper paint still burnt and a couple of imperfections on the drivers side door handle they said thats the best they can do and that i cant have any form of discount.
all of which when i origionally went in for a quote the assistant manager said in these exact words "our spray jobs are of the highest quality your car will look better than when it came out of the factory" i said to him in front of his manager "what happened to better than factory mate ?" he didnt say a word to me but pretty much gave me vibe/look "why dont you just **** off mate"
If you pay for it, you should have discretion as to what is acceptable. Same with insurance, you pay the fees for a reason, so when your car is in an accident you have it replaced to its original condition.
if you dont like it, tell them to shove it, do it again.

soooo...... any news on the car yet??
but it gets to a point where you cant do anything more.
Our VS was rear ended and hit at a similar angle, and its never lined up since because the symmetry of the chassis and body was pushed out of alignment.
It was repaired because the panel beater wanted the job - ended up costing more then 75% of the agreed value to repair as it was but thats a different story.
The boot lid wouldnt open, then when you pryed it open it wouldnt shut. They tried to say its normal - what - slam the boot to have it pop back up is normal? Having the boot pop open at 110kays down the freeway is normal?
The rear door wouldnt open and similar to the boot wouldnt lock shut. Only the rear of the car was painted with the exception of the front bumper which also copped some damage from being pushed into the car in front.
The drivers door frame leaks - but thats "normal" apparantly. The speakers on the rear parcel shelf both became crackly which we had to proove was like that after the accident. The boot leaks ... the story continues.
It went back several times to have the non locking boot and rear door fixed, the drivers seat which was jammed into position fixed, the overspray on the seats removed and the missing trim pieces replaced.
As for the leaks well what can one do. They tried to fix it several times but still claim it was like that before the accident. The boot and bonnet dont line up and its obvious from the side on view because you can see the gap.
Better off written off and starting fresh. Theres never going to be a car the same as it, but your better off with a new car to make your own then to be stuck with a car that gives you problems.![]()
good luck with it tho
So, Mike, whats the news????

opps.. havent seen this thread for a while..
Ok.. so it is getting fixed... It SHOULD be back to me on the 18th...
Now already the insurance has tryed to stooge me.. They said that it doesnt look like the damage on the doors was caused by the accident (kind of inconsistant, big bang then scratches..) but they are going to fix the doors (which WERE a result of the accident). Now theyre saying that the drivers side side skirt couldnt have been a result of the accident, even though the scratches were consistant and the same colour as those on the doors! anyway I told the guy it was and I told him to fix it...
So should be ready on the 18th... I'm gonna go have a look at it, see if everything is ok.
I'm going to have to keep the car till about mid to late june but I will be looking for an upgrade.. Not so much because of whats happend to the car, more so because I have to opportunity and I thought why not, if the right car comes along (vy berlina - prefereably series 2 or vy calais) then i'll upgrade if not i'll just hold on to it a bit longer untill one does.. i miss driving a vy
so not next friday, the one after, should have her back
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

Have it back by the 18th? Thats a pretty quick turnover! I am surprised that you weren't given the choice of a write off/repair. Did they tell you the cost of repair? Also how much would you have gotten for a payout? If they try screw you out of repairing a certain part of the car then kick up a big stink and don't take crap from them.

Tell the ####wits that it was in perfect condition before the crash. Anything that is ####ed now is needed to be fixed. Maybe they done a shoitty inspection and thats why they decided to repair thinking it would cost less when in actual fact it should have been writen off?
I was suprised at how quickly they said it would be done as well... I think the lady at the insurance place said 15 working days :| I was expecting alot longer...
I'm not sure how much the repairs are going to cost all up... I had a talk to the assessor but he wasnt very helpful at all... Didnt even give me a full list of whats going to be replaced/repaired
And I'm definately not taking any crap from them... I'm not taking the car off their hands untill im 100% satisfied with it even if that means im without a car for longer
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

I should be expecting almost a month for that kind of damage.
Exactly. I don't know too many repairers that could do that work in 15 days. Mine took the better part of 6 weeks but I was out of the country for 3 of those so my wife and I lived off one car for three weeks. On a good note we saved heaps in petrol costs.
They could do it in 15 days if they had all the parts on hand ready to go but in reality parts have to be ordered which wastes time waiting on delivery. I had to wait a couple of days extra because the supplier sent the wrong remote boot switch and had the be re sent blah blah blah... Just have to play the waiting game.
A word of advice for you... screw the assessors and go talk directly to the repairers. Not once did I talk to the insurance after reporting the insurance claim. It was all through the repairer. Plus the repairer asked if I wanted a full itemised list of everything that was replaced and a full costing. A couple of times on the way home from work I'd call in to look at the car and see where they were up to and they were happy for me to do that. They even suggested a few 'under the table dealings' with the stacker and on a previous claim to repair a sill panel they sent off two alloys to be repaired at the cost of the insurer. Bottom line is try to build up a good rapport with your repairer. They'll look after you and it helps for any future incidents.

totally agree with this comment. our family has taken our cars to one repairer on 8 seperate occasions (listed below). we always get good service and a quality result. only reason i dont have my car there now is because they were too busy and wouldnt be able to start it for 6 weeks.Originally Posted by Scooter79
