    Default Speedway

Well, last night i helped a m8 debut his car at Rosedale International Speedway, now, it may have been a ford, but at least its a race car, it took us about 3 months from road car, to race car, and that was just workin weekends, and the odd weeknight here and there, but to no avail, the meet got rained out, and the fact he had an lsd in it, didnt do him any favors, couldnt keep it straight, as soon as he turned the wheel, his rear end was trying to overtake the rest of the car, so we decided that we will be gettin a single spinner for it lol. So anyone else here watch or race speedway, and if any of the lat valley members were there last night, his car was RD 33, blue xe with yello challenge stripes over the top of it, the one that looked like his never driven a car in his life, - standard saloon.

I'm going to race next season. Not sure if i'm going to race standard saloon or crash n bash. I recently brought an unfinished standard saloon VB commodore, just needs motor and box and a few finishing touches oh also a new paint job because it's mostly bright pink lol.

Is your mate running a six or an eight? I'm thinking of using either a 253 or a 308 rather than a 202 as i want to be competetive although as it will be my first season i think i will be at the back of the field rather than the front.

If i do decide to run standard saloon i would be racing at rosedale against your mate, will have to try and make sure the holden beats the ford lol.

he is running a 250 cross flow, as for the 6 or 8 debate, for a first time, so wot im prolly goin to do 253, their power curve is almost perfect for speedway racing, if you dont know how to use em, powerfull 8s are wasted on teh dirt track, but a 253 has bout same power as a 6, but its torque curve is different, so you have the torque of an 8, but the power of a 6, from wot e1 there tells me, perfect for beginners is you can already handle a v8.

Yeah i'm leaning towards using a 253 as i want to buy a donor car to get the running gear out of and there seems to be a lot more commodores for sale with 253's than 308's. If anyone has a cheap v8 4spd commodore for sale in vic i would be very interested.

A very good friend of mine runs two of these cars, both falcons with worked 250 cross flows. Very impressive engines in both the cars. They were meant to be running at Rosedale on Saturday. I haven't spoken to him about it yet. Probably nothing to speak about if the meet was rained out....

He runs a mini spool in his diffs, might be something for the OP's mate to consider rather than an LSD or a single spinner. The spool would make the car much more predictable.

I have raced a few different cars up here. I started out in a 250 crossflow cortina & then went to an XF falcon. Both were very quick cars & a lot of fun to drive. The XF would of been the easiest of the two to corner in but the cortina had the better straight line speed. Now however I have a VS commodore & it makes the others seem like slugs. This is a standard V6 ecotec against worked 250's.
As for the V8,s torque curve I do not see any advantage. Just cam & gear the car so it falls into the power range exitting the corner & hit peak RPM before the end of the straight. This makes the car a lot easier to turn which is where you will make the better lap times.

Got a mate that races, his older brother used to race an ea falcon but that's sold and I believe they were looking for a ba to do up - at present I think he's got a ef sitting in his garage with the full cage - looking at getting an r31 skyline on the track soon as he's got a shell sitting there doing nothing.

I've been meaning to go and photograph the events for ages but I've always got other things on.
