THE vandals who painted the words "Anzacs are murderers" and peace signs all over a war memorial in the NSW town of Bathurst needed a "goood kick up the backside", Premier Morris Iemma said today.
Five teenage girls were arrested overnight, allegedly still covered in paint, after police were called to the carillion war memorial.
A 16-year-old girl was charged with maliciously damaging a shrine or war memorial and malicious damage to police property.
She was bailed to appear in Bathurst Children’s Court on May 28.
Four 15-year-old girls were released, to be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act .
Bathurst RSL honorary secretary Jim McFerran said more than 40 people, including RSL members, local army personnel, council workers, volunteer firefighters and a group of young men on their way home after a night out, worked all night to clean off the paint before today's Anzac dawn service.
Mr Iemma criticised the act of vandalism.
"They need a history lesson and a good kick up the backside as well," he said of the perpetrators on Macquarie radio.
NSW RSL president Don Rowe said the vandalism was "absolutely bloody terrible".
"They're stupid idiots," he said. "I hope someone gives them a good lesson in Australian history."
NSW Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell labelled it an act of stupidity.
"It's an incredible slap in the face for the people - who were probably not much older than the perpetrators - when they went overseas to fight for this country and keep democracy alive," he said.
Sorry but i onyl have a few words for these absolute disgraces for human beings.
I hope that when people see you walk down the street they spit in your face the same you spat in the Past soldiers faces for doing what you did.
Absolutley disgraceful.

Disgusting, they need nore than a kick up the backside what a despicable act.
kick their asses, don't feed them for a month and give them a week in jail... hippies.
ship them back to Turkey or Afghanastan, how's that for freedom of speech... deface a statue of Allah.
I fully agree with all your sentiments. Such a low, disrespectful, dirty, no good act. The deserve to have their heads kicked in.
Although I applaud the community for getting together so quickly to clean this garbage.
Stupid kids that havmt even lived yet.It was fantastic to see all of the people cleaning it all up so the srevice wasnt ruined. They should be praised.
They should all be shot ... I don't care what their reason is, they have no respect, and should never get any bit of respect from the community ...
I saw the clean up methods on the news, and yes the community really did pull together to fix it... Good on em .. If I were there I would do the same..
i DO NOT condone hitting females, but if i meet her i will break her face
absolute disgrace
I see the girls were arrested almost immediately following their vandalism. Maybe they should have been dragged (literally) back to the monument and forced to assist with the cleaning. Take pics of them doing so - full face pics - and publish in all the Australian newspapers so we all know who they are.

parents have now powers,so its the government who should then get the kick etc (we could go on all night). Suggest a parent was to try controlling the kids, they'd be able to be sued etc.
And personally, at 15 i knew right from wrong, and by the time i was 16 (with my license) i never had to say what i was doing to my parents, as long as i called if there was a problem.

Find them and drag them home and again face charges of abuse? The sad part is if your child grows up to become a rebel against your rules there really is not a lot you can do as a parent. They can bail to Centrelink, claim things are bad at home and be granted payments. At work we see these little sods on a daily basis, rebelling against society and all the rules, thinking at 15/16/17 they know everything and you know nothing.

in australia it is illegal to name kids under the age of 18 for any crimes they do, cuase under that age, they are not belived to be responsible for their actions.
while what these children did is by far the most apauling thing anyone can do to this countrys identity, it still is illgel to discus any crimes commited by children. and as a result, this thread will be closed.
should you have any issues with this decision, i sugest you pm me directly.
