herrow. i've heard that (in victoria at least) that if you see someone hooning around, you can grab their number plates and dob them into the cops....and the cops will do something about it??!!! that seems like absolute bull****....how can the cops fine you for hooning when they haven't got proof, just word of mouth from some dobber?!? coz i've heard a few people have copped it from the coppers because they were hooning and someone dobbed them in....this does not sound right at all....has anyone else heard of this?

All they can do is check up on you.You cant be charged or anything like that.
Ive had one complaint that was done through the council and all they did was ring me up and told me that somebody had complained and that if i was mucking around (which i wasnt)then i should stop.
Different in WA, it has always been that if someone dobbed you in and was willing to testify in court you are gone. My brother in law got done when he was young, did a U-turn and chirped the tyres off the gravel onto the bitumen. An older lady took his rego and dobbed him in. $500 and 9 months I think he got.
If you get multiple complaints from various people they will do something
I always let police know about idiots around here

i herd that it does go on record that a complaint has been made tho, is this true?
yeh i beleive it is and if getting multiple records they can do sumthing bout it which i think sucks seeming i can ring up complaining bout sum1 i dont like and screw em over

yeah that's what i was thinking, if someone hates you, they can can dob you in for stuff you haven't done just to mess you around

Im sure if they have no proof, and its the same guy over and over reporting you cops will have no choice but to just give warnings.
If i lost my license for someone reporting me of spinning my wheels around a corner or something id be having friendly words to the police at the door.
Depending on what it is, i'll do it.
If its just a burnout, i wouldn't bother dobbing someone in, but the second little old granny on her way to church spins the wheels in the wet, i'd be straight on the phone. Reason being, a young 'hoon' could handle that, yet little old granny (as per the recent threads on here) would end up cause something pretty serious (like the 70yo guy who crossed a median strip, had a head on with a car and took out a family)
Also a while ago on my way back from Victor Harbour, this hero decided to overtake me on double crossed lines, aswell as the other 4 cars all doing the speed limit. When i rang the cops, he had just had another call about the same car, so that guy will definatly get a fine.

a guy i know got his car impounded (in SA) for 24 hours i think it was because he was dobbed in for hooning. he wasn't even in town on the day it was supposed to have happened, his car was in the shed all day and hadnt been driven. its a bit rooted
yeah it reminds me of the 'dob in a cig-litterer' thing they have.
i've heard of folks getting done for butting out the window, cept they don't smoke in their cars, ended up having to cop the fine because they didn't have the time to screw around in court.
if someone is just sitting tehre at some traffic lights and gives it to much gas, nah i wont worry about it. if some is just impressing some mates with some circle work, nah not my issue
but if someone is drifting in a school zone in the rain yeah, ill say soemthing then. but it's not my place.
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
And the drink driving thing. Same story. If you knew someone drink driving you could ring up and get a 500 dollar reward. Not sure if it still exists. They have something similar in Victoria as well... Mobile fines. You can report people for that.
I did a skid out the front of a mates place, nuthin huge tho....a while l8r the cops caught up with me and checked my tyres for evidence of a skid (after the skid I cut sick on a dirt road to try and hide the evidence, coz I got a call saying the cops were just at my house looking for me)....and the cops left and said they'll get back to me. That night Mum rang me up and said the cop was just around our place and he said that they've found a witness to my burnout (prolly the person who dobbed me in) and I'll be getting an on the spot fine of $110. So even tho the cops didn't see a thing I still got fined. Car didn't get impounded tho.
And at the same time as the cop was at my house, a house about 500m up the road had aboriginal kids snooping around the back yard while the owner wasn't there....I was at the house next door when it was happening (well about a minute late coz when I rocked up my mates were out the front waiting for the fuz coz the aboriginals had just taken off) and the cops never showed up until later in the night.....yet there was a cop up the road at my house, and he still didn't make it.
Also oneday I got dobbed in for doing something I didn't do. I pulled up at a local 'hangout' where people park, and like 2 mins l8r a cop came in and pulled up behind me and she said that they'd had complaints of my car doing burnouts in the same carpark I was in.....she said it was about 30 minutes ago.....I said I wasn't even here 30 mins ago I was washing my car at the local car wash, and if she didn't believe me she can go check the video surveillance camera's at the car wash, and the ones which are suppose to be on 24/7 monitoring the car park which I was in and had apparently did a burnout in....she gave me back my licence and left.

seriously
they need some form of evidence. not just "oh hi..some kid is going around turns and tires are chriping"
i belive they should need photgraphic evidenceor suveilance fotage cause by the sounds of things people are getting fines for things they havent done
me..if i ever get onbe of these fines if i hadent done anything wrong they better not expect payment cause id challenge it
that and i know some cops so before i did anything id go check with them about the ticket to see where i stand

um, maybe a friend of some sort?
I know of it being done, to the extent that someone didn't use an indicator when changing lanes, some pissed off person got home and rang a few friends to 'also' call up the cops and say they were doing something more serious. Theres a huge grey area for it to be abused.

what is everybody else's? i just want to know if i have a sook moment and i feel like giving my car a beating to the speed limit can they do anything?. i know my neighbors would dob me in because they have double standards, they do 50 down my street (50 zone) but expect others to do 20.... (has actually been said)
well i've heard that giving it some stick to the speed limit is classes as "hooning" and the cops can fine you for "reckless driving" even though you didn't get any wheelspin and exceed the speed limit.
E Series
to me, hooning is simply being an idiot - speeding, going sideways, etc. just a little chirp from the wheels going around a corner to hard isn't much, but it's still wrong, and i guess that would be classed as hooning as well.
