Default Imported beers getting bottled in Australia

Ok I don't know if anyone else has noticed but Heiniken and Becks are now brewed in Australia by Lion Nathan. I swear it doesn't taste as good. It doesn't have such a crisp taste any more. Does anyone else notice this. Also I'm pissed they still charge the same amount even though it's brewed locally.

It's brewed under licence, so Lions Nathan have to pay a fee for the privelidge of brewing and selling it. The reason for the taste difference is the water. When making home brew you can taste the difference when using tap water compared to filtered or rain water. The water used in the country of origin is different to here. Doesn't Heineken use spring water? The different minerals in that would make a huge difference.

Stella is brewed here by CUB, as are a lot of other imports.

    Yeah,

Thats why I don't buy Becks unless its the imported version.

I'm not paying premium prices for something that is made here and tastes different.

Shouldn't be charging the same as it actually costs your supplier less, not sure on the prices of Becks, etc as we have a pouring rights contract with Fosters but the 'local' Stella bottles cost us up to $20 less than the 'real' ones

Similiar thing to Kilkenny, when it first came out on tap here it was all imported but then they started making it here under licence and it just isn't the same, Guinness is another classic example

Funny story, when I was in New York last year I went to a Yankees game at Yankee stadium. They had a Fosters beer stand near the kiosk. To my surprise I found out it's actually brewed and bottled in Canada and shipped to the states and classed as a Premium import. Premium my ar$%! Also tried a few Buds and Miller's. They're quite good. When we got to Nashville there was nothing like sitting in a bar, watching some country band, downing a few Budweisers and a full rack of ribs. God that was good.

By the way, the prices in NY were rediculous. A cup of beer at a Yankees game was $9US. About $11AUS. For a cheap meal one lunch we went to a Maccas. The happy meals were nearly $10US. On the highways in the southern states they have big billboards advertising "The 99c Happy meal"

If you did the Fosters vs Crownies blindfold test would anyone really be able to tell the difference? I doubt it. Probably why I'm not to fussed on Crownies either.

Exactly that's what I've been told by my mate from the UK

Also your right not an abba fan. I think it has a lot to do with the water. I know they bring the hops over and then grow it here but that's not all you add to make beer. It also helps they have gorgeous naked blonde sweed women swim in the vats that's a joke people.

Another thing I hate is they used to make heiniken in a large bottle omg that was great less times you had to get up to the fridge love tallies, longnecks what ever you want to call them.

I prefer Dab over bitburger. Went to oktoberfest in brissie last year cost 25 just to get in that was the only bad part. 500mil pints of german beer, german saussages and big pretzel oh yeah that's where it's at.

I agree totally, not to mention the shops who try to sell these cheap copies off as imported and charge fully imported prices.

Underage drinking is legal. I developed a taste for beers when I was underage.

I pay premium prices for Becks, Heineken and the European lagers, knowing full well that they're made under license. Whilst they're not as good as the ones you get overseas (those are friggin A), they certainly beat Carlton or VB (which I drink at pubs).

Stockade Lager is a premium Australian Lager which is as good as the European ones, but it's a boutique brewery with boutique prices.
