HA!!! I got exactly the same virus, apparently I'm using McAfee it is able to remove it!! But this little bugger kept coming back again once every often. So I'm awaiting for a new virus definition from McAfee to be able to stop it permanently. Just hang in there but I would advice you to find a way to get rid of it as I don't know what it does to the system. McAfee classified it as a program not virus, could be the same thing, dunno.

Yea that will get rid of it, but if you dont want to do that, try performing the virus scan in safe mode. And turn off system restore so the virus cant hide in there.

I had one a few months back i couldnt delete to save myself. So i just reformated haha.

Best bet is to download a removal tool, as you are probably doing, and turn off system restore then turn it on again. That will clear out the data stored in there and kill the virus.

Yeah it is not a good idea to reformat the drive just because of ONE virus as it can be removed. Just got to find a way apart from formatting.

Safe mode, run AVG antivirus (it's free), make sure you UPDATE it, and it should remove it.

What's the difference between Windows and a virus?
    A virus is free.

Formatting your computer is a LAST resort, NOT a first resort.

The two best Anti-virus programs are Norman Virus Control and VET Anti-virus. I have heard good things about Trend Micro as well.

Steer clear of Norton Anti-virus and McAfee. I'm not sure about AVG.

I have used Avast for the past 5 years and I have had no trouble at all.
As I receive over 100 emails per day from all countries, most are trying to attach all kinds of programs to my PC's so far Avast has stopped all the bugs.
Avast is FREE, I like FREE...... http://www.avast.com

Certain websites are riddled with Trojans. When you click on a download link it downloads a virus too. Mainly sites that have 'cracked' software or keys to unlock certain software. Sometimes a P2P download will give you one and bit torrent.

A smart virus can also detect an opened net port (something like that) on your computer and use it.

Do system restore once your antivirus has removed it. Still having probs this site below is great help.

If you are running XP goto your start menu... right click on 'my computer'... click on 'properties'... there should be a tab labelled 'system restore', click that... then tick the box that says 'turn off system restore'. reboot your PC... check for viruses then follow the same steps to re-enable system restore.

    hope this helps

    Just for the record - this virus/trojan patchs rundll32, explorer.exe and winlogon.exe

That makes it pretty goddamn tough to remove (I had two PC's come through work with this on it and honestly it turned out cheaper (by that I mean quicker thus being able to charge less) to just backup the data, reformat, reinstall windows and reisntall all the drivers, applications etc. It's too much of a headache trying to get rid of this trojan....
