    Default motorbike timing

Hi, i got given a kawasaki KH100G. It had no magneto/flywheel. I got a flywheel today. I cleaned the magneto and points with emery paper. I have spark and a new spark plug. When i was kicking it over all i could get was a couple of backfires. There is good commpression, the carby is clean.

My question is do bikes like this have to be timed? I have never had to muck with bikes much. I have change points, cleaned carbys etc but never had to time one.
I have searched the net but cant find any info.
    Cheers Shane

yes you will need to time it there should be two timing marks on the flywheel one marked "T" and one marked "F" turn the flywheel till the "F" lines up with the timing mark on the crankcase this is when the points should start to open maybe you could also have some dust off the emery paper on the points still I allways pull a peice of paper through the points when finished sanding them to clean out any sand from the paper.

just starting to open I normally connect my multimeter to the points so I can tell when they lose contact and set them exactly opening as the mark lines up as my tt500 just about blows ya foot clean off if the timings off a bit.not nice at all took three days to walk properly last time.
