Damn trucks, i hate em, gotta fix em every day.
Well on Thursday the boss bought a truck upto the worshop, and said its usin 7 Liters of water a day, fix it, so already knowing after having the sump off it for an oil leak a few months ago, i noticed water around the bottom of no 5bore, so i thought, ok, ill relpace the cylender liners, so i stripped it all down, ordered parts, and thought ill take the head around the head shop, just be sure, well good thing i did, injector tubes leaking, $1600 to fix, now the boss is whinging to me that its gonna cost him 3,500 to fix it, and that why is it costing so much etc. This realy has no point, other than the fact i just thought idd let you all know how much i HATE TRUCKS lol
yeah mate i spend 58 hours a week working with steel and welding and i think i hate steel and welders sometimes but without it i wouldn't have a job.

I think fixing trucks isnt the best to get into hey?? lol
What engine was it? Something European?
Trucks arent that bad, you can earn big bucks working on them.
it is a jap import mitsubishi (bits r sh!tty) 6d15 in a medium rigid. I just ahte this thing, cause no 1 has parts for it being a jap import, most of the parts have to come from sydney, and although i work on trucks, i onli get paid the same as any other 4th yr apprentice out there, and ill onli be gettin bout $1.50/hr more when i qualify in 10 weeks, i did most of my app workin on cars, but the last place i got put to 'fill in' was at a food wholesaler working on their fleet, but then the head mechanic left, and now im in charge of the maitenance, and its just a major HEAD F**K, idd rather just get to work, have the boss hand me an RO, and i just do what im told to, and onli have to worry about where im goin for a drink on the weekend lol
Fair enough, but the up side to all this is you are getting experience as a Foreman. Or, just wait your ten weeks, then leave. There is plenty of work out there for good mechanics.
Ive worked on Jap stuff, they really arent that bad. You should try working on a short bonnet Western Star or a Sterling. They really do suck
dont mind working on the trucks really, just have to be very care not to drop anything when pulling them apart, lots of heavy objects,
btw has anyone here done a clutch on a mack titan by any chance?

Not a titan but have mucked with the tridents and fleetliners a bit.
I love ther sterling 5 star. If i had to own a truck it would be that one. TNT had the first one in darwin and i got to drive it down the stuart highway. Used to work for sterling trucks as a spare parts guy, so no dirty hands for me hahahaha

Anything European is generally built to a high quality, but its downfall can be that unlesss you have spent some serious time working on them, they can be complex to work on and over the top in some respects. The current range of European trucks that I have the (dis)pleasure of working on have about 7-8 computers on them controlling the vehicles various functions. Considering most American trucks run an Engine ECU and ABS control module, it seems unnecessary to use 7 computers on a vehicle designed to cart a load of crap up and down the highway.
Id agree about the Iveco's too, my old man had some Powerstars with Series 60's in them, and they were an excellent truck for him, and were really easy to drive too
yeah, its heaps comfortable, and is on some serious boost at idle
