If you have 1g of ram, you won't notice any difference by stopping any of the tasks there. It's only if you have any apps running at the same time it will affect your gaming. A good graphic card will make a world of difference too as the memory on that will be used before system ram.

Use this program from microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sExplorer.mspx
process explorer will tell you what each program is that way you can tell if you need it.

BTW svchost is for legacy windows internal programs

Mate, ive done some very simple calculations for you... note that its not intirly accurate in regards to memory allocation within the CISC environment, however.. look at the pic.

P.s. Thats not ALL of your current running processes... sometimes theres more... hijack this will give you an entire list as MS TM seems to omit a few, who knows why... oh wait, cos its crap... pfft.

ok, 'explorer' isn't microsoft internet explorer.

MSIE is an internet browser, 'iexplore.exe'.

Explorer is MSW's apllcation browser, it contols task planes, windows, the desktop environment, the start menu... etc. etc. it 'explorers' windows essentially.

And ill make a note also, that IE is now not as unstable as it once was. IT rates just as highly as Firefox and includes, most if not all of mozilla features within it.
