plastic headlight polish?

does anyone know of a good polish to use to get rid of a few small stone chips on the front of plastic headlights (vy calais) they may be too deep but worth a try if anyone has any ideas?

when last at the service depo, a rep came it and went on bout this polish for uv affected headlights, he said will be avail through repco, dunno much more than that

when i was selling my xbox i took off that green shiny bit on the top to clean cos it looked like it had been ridden down a mountain with scuffs etc.

a guide on the net recommended using silvo/brasso cos they're like mildly abrassive, but not enough to make scratches, just enough to shine things up. kinda like the finest sand paper you can think of.

Stone chips you'll need a strong cutting compound, probably some wet and dry.

For general discolouration, fogginess, etc etc toothpaste is one of the best light abrasives to use.

I have always used normal car polish or cutter on plastic lights front & rear. Makes old taillights come up like new! Chips may be too deep for this, but it is just plastic- you can actually sand it going finer and finer then buffing back to smooth.

I'd use a very fine sand paper and then a cutting compound specifically for plastic. They come up quite well but after you do that, buy some headlight covers. They are a rip off at $100 but do stop the sand blasting problem that modern plastic lights are prone to.

Use a buffing compound, same as that used for acrylic plastics. Try calling around plastics suppliers in your area. get a bit on a soft buffing pad, and buff it at a really light speed, or by hand. if you go too quick, you run the risk of melting the palstic.

Using detergent based products will affect the properties of the polycarbonate, making it more brittle. This can cause the plastic to shatter in the future, with rock hits,etc. Same goes for crappy stone deflectors.

I seen a product advertised in a cataloge the other day , either from repco or supercheap can't remember which one . It was around the $25 mark
