    Default 2000 Hyundai Excel

My sister as just bought a 2000 Huyundai excel, now i know that most of the mid 90's ones were crap ( ones i drove down here were! ) so im just wondering for her sake if the 2000 models suffer from unreliablity and general excessive wear and tear.

The general rule is Female + Manual = Burnt out clutch

I don't think it would be too bad. I have driven a Hyundai Accent whcih is basically an updated excel and it had a rubbish clutch. It was light as a feather, so it would be easy to ride the clutch without noticing. My sister beat the crap out of a Daewoo Cielo for years and it never had any problems.

I did my mechanical apprenticeship at a hyundai work shop there are good cars, cheap parts, one thing they will have trouble with is the key reader around the igintion barrael if the car winds over and over with no fire its not getting the correct reading to the immobiliser and will not let it start we replaced a few of these every week

i have to tend to agree with this
my oldies had a daewoo cielo 97 and this thing was mecahnically good, clocked up 150,000ks with out any major prob,
just genral mantinace and they are great
last i knew it was still driving around 2 years after we sold it

now we have a 06 daewoo lacetii (holden rebadged now as viva) and this thing is still going good, up to 70,000ish ks

just depends how you look after a korean car, i reckon they have a bad image as people just drive them into the ground and dont care. because they were cheap to start with so they deam them a throw away

im a mechanic, and FYI hyundai has to be one of the most underrated cars around, sure i wouldnt buy one, but there cars built from like 2002-onwards would be competing with toyota standards, reliable as all hell if serviced (which is the same as all cars)

koreans can build very good cars and would probably be better than australian cars these days

Brother in law has one as a work car. It hasn't been serviced except for a safeway oil changes in 120,000k's and still flies around. Trust me when I say he drives it like he stole it. Only thing they had to do was the timing chain or something? Has to be done every 100k's or so about $600 worth.
