planning on going up within the month for a holiday during the mid semester break....
my mate wants to knock the whole drive over in 1 day (almost constant driving)...he believes between the 5 of us we should be over to do the whole drive in rougly 24 hours...
alot of people tell me that theres no way we could do it in 24 hours... anyone else ever done this?
cheers
Yeah its possible. I drove from Melbourne to Kempsey in about 17 hours, and thats about 4 hours or so from Brissy. I stopped for a couple of short breaks as well as petrol stops and i drove through Sydney metro during lunch time. So i would say its definallty doable. I did that all by myself, so with other people helping with the driving its no problem.
yep easy as drove from melbourne to sunshine coast 130ks north of brisbane in 2 days just driving by myself with my girlfriend (doesnt have a lisence). I was almost at the qld border by the end of the first day bout 6pm left at 530 the next morrning and got to the sunshine coast about 2pm the next day. Roughly 2200km's
Me a 3 mates drove from sunshine coast to ayers rock 3500km's pretty much non stop took us 36 hours
I stayed to the country highway and avoided sydney went through dubbo and all that cant remember which way exactly was 2-3years ago
this is the way i went
Melbourne to Brisbane Road Map.
yeah not at all surprised... im planning on taking the first few hours of driving, then maybe having a few beers, a couple of sleeping pills and hopefully the next time i wake up will be at the gold coast![]()
just have a look at the link i posted prolly the quickest way from what i worked out last when i went.
Melbourne to Brisbane Road Map.
I also drove from ayers rock to melbourne in 2 days that was another 2000 ks . I drove pretty much half way around australia. Its fun and a good way to take in our country but not that good on the money. My trusty mazda 88' 929 never let me down
when dad picked up the corvette 3 weeks ago he and a mate drove from brisbane to canberra taking all the country roads. they left brisbane at around 10 and got home at around 12 midnight. dont know if this helps, but it is some idea on time/distance.
i dont know about south of sydney but from there to brisbane just take the pacific highway.
if you take the new england you'll go ****ing mad with boredom even more than you usually would driving, plus there's bugger all 24hr servo's and stuff along it (if your treking the 24hr drive).
the pacific highway is slightly longer than the new england (not by much), but its a heaps better/easier drive.
When i went up the pacific last november they were doing a ton of roadworks and what not. Hopefully thats all finished. But i highly recommend the drive just comming out of sydney on the pacific, its so much fun when you start hitting hornsby and such. All winding roads was bloody magnificent.
Whatever you do or how long you drive just don't drive if you feel tired or sleepy, its not a race so don't forget to take breaks!!!!
Have plenty of rest before you drive and take turns if others are coming.
Travelmate can give you a blow by blow guide to getting to the Gold Coast from Melb.
Total 1,684.58 km 18 hours 29 mins ... and the addy is:
Map Maker - Australian Travel Maps, Driving Directions and City Street Maps - Travelmate
Just remember this is based on distance alone and does not allow for traffic lights, peak hour, rest stops etc etc
cheers for that mate... seems just like whereis.com - Unsupported browser
ok so it does sound like we can get it all over in 24 hours... itll be a hell drive though... but first thing im doing when i get their is getting my esky, filling it with grog and hitting the beach![]()
racq offer it aswell.
My gf's dad used to do this a fair bit, but from Rockhampton to Melbourne, so add another 7 hours onto that. He'd do it in one trip back when he'd do it.
so are you doing it to see the sights? if you plan to do it in a record time you wont see much.
If getting there so you can hit the beach is you aim just fly! prices are pretty competitive lately and you'll save yourself a lot of time, wear and tear, and risk.
But, if the sightseeing excites you, have fun!
