Got pulled over today because my P plate was missing (my brother had taken it and im gonna kill him now!), and the cop tells me that my registration is 10 days overdue... which i had no idea it was even close to being due... never received anything in the mail about renewal... $551!!! not happy, the most annoying thing was i got home, and a letter from vicroads telling me that the car was no longer registered because i hadn't renewed was on the table... it took almost a whole week for that letter to come in the mail...

if only aussie post were a bit quicker, then i woulda realised and payed the registration.. aww shoulda known it was due

Dont know what state you are in but in Vic we get our renewal 6 weeks before they are due.

Well over a month here in SA. I know when when mine is due everytime as I have to budget for the $800 they slug me per year.

Well i know if i didnt get my letter i wouldnt remember my rego is due. The whole point of sending the letters out is to say "Hey Give VicRoads More Money On This Date"

I get my letter and I pin it to the back off my bedroom door so ill see it every morning.

Im still registered in Queensland, so my dad gets my Rego Renewal thing and sends it to me asap, Ive been pulled over with an expired sticker before, cause ive been waiting for my dad to send my new one down. Sure the copper gives me the 20 questions routine, but i have a reciept in the glovebox showing that i have indeed paid it. Once i pull that out they shut their traps and i go along my merry way.

Your rego sticker has a number on it. If that number is 8, your rego is due on or before August.

Surely you have to notice that your sticker's getting abit old. You've still got the Blue one while everyone else is gradually changing to the orange one.

No ones fault but your own. Don't blame Auspost. You should've chased it up beforehand.

I was sprung dragging along Footscray Rd on my way to work, way, way back in the seventies. Hadn't paid my rego: 'stupid kid in those days was I . Later that morning, cops came and took away my plates.

I had to get the bloody thing towed home. To compound the problem it then had to have a roadworthy. A very expensive exercise in the end. At least four times more expensive than the original rego cost

You have no-one to blame but yourself my friend.
It's up to the owner/driver to be aware of the expiry date on their rego sticker,a letter from your respective RTA should not be relied upon as the only means of notification.
Consider it a lesson lear'nt.

Agreed, pretty hard to miss the oversized, bold number on your rego sticker. Mind you, I don't very often look at my sticker, although I always know what month it is due at least, then check out the date.

In my state (vic) we have dirty big numbers printed on the sticker on the window that let you know when your rego is due.

But it is always easier to blame someone else for your problems. I guess a letter in the mail reminding you to check the back of your bedroom door is in order?

All I can say $551 is cheap in comparison to having a crash unregistered. Think if you had a crash unregistered, no insurance, charged with driving an unregistered vehicle. As **** as it is, could have been a lot worse.

speaking of rego I had to pay mine today. Had to pay for rego on the VX when I had it back in April and it was $300. The VZ cost me close to $500 for rego today, so theyve made $800 out of me this year and one of the cars I no longer own

Cant complain tho, I saved money on the CTP - almost $200 which was a surprise.

Now the rego and CTP and insurance is payed time to save for Bathurst 1000
