Aussie's interpretation

I found the usage of "this" and "next" are very clear until yesterday. So what is Aussie interpretation of it? Sorry to ask this stupid question.

2. Next Friday vs This Friday
...... In the US, when referring to days of the week 'Next' and 'This' are basically synonymous. For example, if it is Monday and you say "let's meet next Friday" or "let's meet this Friday" you mean the one in four days.
In Ireland if on Monday you say, "let's meet this Friday," you mean the one in four days, however, if you say "let's meet next Friday," you mean the one in eleven days!......


I used to think majority of people take the first interpretation, but I may be wrong. so please comment.

The way I use this and next is the way Ireland use it. "Next" to me would the one after "this" one. So it would be the next Friday after this one coming up.

yeah thats the way i use "this" and "next" aswell... the other way is far too confusing

i get the irish idea, but i still have to ask ask whether what friday they do mean! alot of my mates confuse me because they all have their own ideas...

personnaly i prefer to use "i'll see ya friday week"

if i say this friday it's the one coming up. if I say next friday it means friday NEXT week

'not this one, the one after it' or give the date.

and ' next friday ' as the one next week
when people say ' friday week ' im like, uhhh this week or next week?

i use the irish context.........this friday to me means "this friday coming towards us now"

next friday to me means: "the next friday after this one"
